Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Risk Manager to join our dynamic team in the mining industry. In this pivotal role, you will serve as the primary liaison for cross-functional collaboration, effectively managing teams and delivering comprehensive risk management solutions applicable across multiple departments. Your expertise will be instrumental in guiding key decisions and addressing complex challenges inherent in the mining sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborative Leadership: Act as the central point of contact for various teams, fostering collaboration to develop and implement risk management strategies.
  2. Team Management: Oversee and mentor a team of actuarial professionals, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and industry best practices.
  3. Strategic Decision-Making: Engage with cross-functional teams to contribute to critical decisions, providing actuarial insights that influence the company's strategic direction.
  4. Risk Assessment: Utilize advanced mathematical, statistical, and financial theories to evaluate the financial implications of risks associated with mining operations.
  5. Uncertainty Analysis: Examine and model uncertain future events pertinent to the mining industry, including commodity price fluctuations, operational hazards, and regulatory changes.
  6. Solution Design Facilitation: Lead design sessions to comprehend actuarial requirements, collaborating with stakeholders to develop effective risk mitigation solutions.

Qualifications:
  1. Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or a related field.
  2. Professional Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in actuarial risk management, preferably within the mining or natural resources sector.
  3. Risk Management Expertise: Demonstrated advanced proficiency in risk management principles, with a proven track record of assessing and mitigating risks in complex industrial settings.
  4. Analytical Skills: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with proficiency in utilizing actuarial software and statistical tools.
  5. Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of articulating complex actuarial concepts to diverse audiences.
  6. Leadership Abilities: Proven leadership and team management experience, with the ability to inspire and guide a team towards achieving strategic goals.
  7. Professional Certification: Fellowship or Associate status with a recognized actuarial professional body is preferred.
