Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer Mercantile Law

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To contribute to the academic project of the Faculty of Law through facilitating and administering the learning and teaching processes for students in modules presented by the Department of Mercantile Law at Nelson Mandela University at undergraduate and postgraduate level, to do research, contribute to community engagement and to be involved in the core functions of the Faculty and University.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

1. Facilitate effective teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
2. Specifically in Mercantile Law modules, including Labour Law and/or IT Law.
3. Assume responsibility for course materials, lectures, tutorials and assessment of law modules, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
4. Contribute to programme management and curriculum development.
5. Successful research supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students in Mercantile Law.
6. Assist with the development and implementation of the research and engagement strategies for the Department of Mercantile Law.
7. Be able to perform independent research and publish peer-reviewed research outputs.
8. Perform administrative duties and contribute to the achievement of the Faculty of Law’s strategic plan.
9. Contribute to the successful implementation of the Faculty of Law’s strategic plan.

CORE COMPETENCIES

1. Expert knowledge in the theory and application of Mercantile Law, specifically in Labour Law and/or IT Law.
2. Experience in facilitating teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
3. Ability to design curricula and course material.
4. Contribute to the creation of knowledge through research and publications.
5. Experience in research supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
6. Involvement in relevant engagement activities or other scholarly outputs.
7. Strong communication, administrative and interpersonal skills.
8. Strong problem solving, planning and organising skills and conceptual thinking.
9. Demonstrated ability to interact successfully with internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

For Senior Lecturer:

1. An LLD or PHD in a sub-discipline in Mercantile Law.
2. A minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience in a teaching, learning and research environment.
3. Participation in local and international conferences through the presentation of research papers.
4. Proven record of accepted peer-reviewed publications.
5. Have a good understanding of Academic policies and procedures.
6. Possess experience at facilitating learning at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
7. A record of both undergraduate and postgraduate supervision.
8. Have potential to contribute to the creation of knowledge by involvement in relevant engagement activities and the publication of textbooks.

For Associate Professor:
