This Sector is looking for another talented professional to complement their team, in the form of an Assistant Resident Engineer.

The below listed responsibilities and requirements are assessed during the interview stages and will further be confirmed with the relevant professional references that you currently are or have reported to in your previous two positions.
Core Purpose
Supervises contractors on site on behalf of a client and monitors adherence to construction scope of work, which includes attending site meetings and site instructions.
Key Performance Areas
- Monitor the Contractors’ progress of projects on site.
- Refer significant queries on design/engineering matters to the Resident Engineer (RE).
- Ensure that the design specs/other problems that may have relevance to future designs are brought to the attention of the RE.
- Apply relevant and applicable clauses of Conditions of Contract to the project.
- Liaise with the Contractor’s Site Agent regarding all aspects of the work.
- Assist the RE in communicating with the public via the Community Liaison Officer and report to the Engineer when necessary.
- Assist the RE in attending and/or chairing formal site meetings with the Contractor and Client.
- Maintain complete records of all construction supervision and progress reports, technical records (including geotechnical test results), and Site Instructions, and collect and maintain records of all other appropriate site information such as weather, labour, etc.
- Coordinate updating of the construction drawings, preparation of new drawings by the Lead Design Engineer if necessary, and ensure timely distribution of the drawings to the Contractors and the Consultant’s supervision staff.
- Assist the Survey and Quantity Surveyor or Cost Engineer to ensure that all survey work required for measurement checking is timeously carried out.
- Oversee the production of “as-built” drawings by the CAD Technician.
- Coordinate the production of progress reports, financial reviews, cash flow forecasts, special reports (including the commission tests and geotechnical reports), and contractual certifications, as required by the RE.
- Assist the RE with Environmental Management of the Contractor’s work.
- Coordinate and review weekly and monthly reports generated by the Employer’s Environmental Representative and the Health and Safety Officer, and assist with correspondence to the Contractor to address non-compliance issues.
- Line function manager for the Employer’s Environmental Representative, Surveyor, Engineering Geologist.
- Coordinate with the Chief Design Engineers to ensure timely distribution of construction drawings to Contractors and supervision staff.
- Assist the construction AREs in the interpretation of the Contract and the handling of variations, claims, etc.
Job Requirements
Qualification:
- Tertiary qualification (BScEng or equivalent).
- Professionally registered with ECSA as a PrEng or in the process of registration.
- Professionally registered with SACPMP as PrCPM is an advantage.
Experience:
- 10+ years’ experience on civil construction projects.
- Experience managing civil construction projects.
