Assistant Management couple - Full trails guide & FOH

Looking for a South African Couple to manage a Lodge in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. It is an ideal position for a couple looking for a more hands-on operation – Involves handling every department.

Because of our remote location and the accommodation available, the position is for couples without children. We are flexible regarding pets.

Although we are a small operation, we pride ourselves on our attention to detail and high standards, as well as people that enjoy immensely interacting with guests.

The candidates that we are looking for are people that are willing to commit, that are passionate about the position and wanting a future in the bush and within this incredible brand.

Reports to GM’s and the lodge manager.

Work cycle: 6 weeks on / 2 weeks off + 7 days compensation leave where possible. No additional annual leave is given.

Starting date:

Position 1: immediately

Position 2: Dec ’24

We don’t work on a hierarchy of senior or junior or assist managers; we have a management team that reports to the lodge manager and GM’s.

MANAGEMENT COUPLE REQUIREMENTS

Salary – slightly negotiable if very strong candidates:

R3 000 food allowance (not given in cash), including 50% Discovery medical aid and provident fund contributions after probation.

Requirements:

• This is not a position for FOH lady that also likes guiding; it is purely a full-time FOH position.
• They must both have 5-star lodge experience – him as trails guide (preferred but not a deal-breaker) / her as FOH.
• It would be in their favour to have strong admin (her more) and planning skills (both).
• Need to be able to be team players, flexible & willing to do a wide scope of duties.
• He must have guiding experience and qualifications:
• at least FGASA Level 1, FGASA Lead Trails Guide and FGASA ARH qualifications, level 1 first aid certificate & PRDP
• or NQF2 incl 8440 and 8478 and VPDA, level 1 first aid certificate & PRDP
• plus Cathsseta certificate and valid registration with NDT
• plus SASSETA rifle proficiency certificate of a minimum .375 calibre rifle, unit standard 117705, unit standard 123519, unit standard 119651
• if using personal rifle, must have a “for business purposes license” and must be valid

Job overview:

For her:

• management, instructing and overseeing of staff
• management of central stores stocktakes (with chefs) & ordering
• involvement in kitchen i.e. Planning menus and orders (experience with this would be to their benefit but not essential)
• hosting of guests, including lock up duty on roster basis
• overseeing camp preparation for guests – checking rooms, special touches, creative flair, attention to detail is a huge factor
• weekly town trips when required
• support to lodge manager & general managers
• typing up of orders & checking in orders on arrival
• strong admin function (including balancing of petty cash & handling/processing of gratuities)
• filling in of other FOH staff when they are on leave
• doing external activities e.g. Sundowner set ups, pancake stops etc.
• must have a strong hands-on management style & be able to keep an eye on everything going on

For him:

• management, instructing and overseeing of staff when lodge manager is on leave
• management of central stores drinks & wine stock
• overseeing lodge and property maintenance & upkeep
• hosting of guests, including lock up duty on roster basis
• overseeing camp preparation for guests
• weekly town trips when required
• support to lodge manager & general managers

• overseeing lodge manager's function, together with other manager, when lodge manager on leave
• must have a strong hands-on management style
