An Assistant Consultant is required to complement the Cape Town Environmental team.

The candidate will primarily provide support on environmental projects including environmental authorisation procedures (Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Water Licensing, and Waste Licensing), stakeholder engagement/public participation, and compliance auditing.

The candidate will also be required to support the other specialist teams within WSP including air quality, water services, contaminated land, and geotechnical services as required.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Delivery of Basic Assessments, Environmental Impact Assessments, Environmental Management Plans, and Compliance Auditing projects.
2. Field Work will form a significant part of the role.
3. Involvement in local projects primarily, and international projects as required.
4. To work both independently and in a team.
5. Good working knowledge of the South African environmental legislation.
6. Accountability for own tasks and deliverables to required deadlines.
7. Health and Safety: Role model standards for SHEQ performance and behaviour consistent with the company's health, safety, environmental and quality vision and policies by influencing those around you.
8. Contributing to the identification of SHEQ risks and driving processes to achieve Zero Harm.
9. Embracing, displaying and promoting the company values and ensuring a safe working environment is maintained at all times.

Minimum Requirements:

1. An Honours or higher degree in a relevant environmental discipline. A Masters is preferable.
2. A minimum of 1 year work experience; however, applicants with up to 5 years' working experience in an environmental consulting environment may be given preference.

Key Competencies and Generic Skills:

1. Between 1 and 5 years' experience in Basic Assessments, Environmental Impact Assessments, Environmental Management Plans, and Compliance Auditing projects.
2. Experience in the renewable, industrial, and/or mining sector.
3. Good working knowledge of the South African environmental legislation.
4. Understanding of broader environmental and social issues (i.e. air quality, waste management, ecological, social, etc.).
5. Ability to travel in Sub Sahara Africa (outside of South Africa) if required.
6. Technical report writing skills, producing professional reports in fluent English.
7. Must be computer literate.
8. Able to work independently.
9. Ability to pay attention to detail.
10. Good organisation skills.

Strong preference will be given to:

1. Candidates who are able to read, write, and converse in French.
2. Candidates that have published papers.
