Area Sales Manager

Our client, a leading and reputable butchery retailer based in Pietermaritzburg, is looking for a results-driven and people-focused Area Sales Manager to lead and grow their regional branch network.
This role is perfect for a strategic leader who understands retail, thrives in a high-performance environment, and knows how to get the best out of people and processes.
The Role in Action
As Area Sales Manager, you'll be responsible for driving sustainable sales growth, improving profitability, and ensuring all stores operate with excellence.
Your key focus areas will include:
- Leading and mentoring store managers across the region
- Overseeing sales performance, budgets, and profitability targets
- Implementing pricing, promotions, and marketing strategies
- Ensuring high standards of meat cutting, display, and hygiene
- Supporting stock management, purchasing, and cost control
- Ensuring compliance with food safety, health & safety, and branding requirements
- Working closely with HR on staffing, performance, and training
- Fostering collaboration and a strong team culture across stores
- Attending bi-weekly sales meetings and reporting on key metrics
- Identifying new growth opportunities and presenting these to Exco
We're Looking for Someone Who:
- Has 5+ years' experience in store or area management (preferably in food retail)
- B-Tech or diploma in retail management or equivalent is advantageous
- Understands retail business practices, including financial reporting
- Is a hands-on leader with excellent communication and people skills
- Has a strong grasp of stock control, compliance, and operational excellence
- Is organised, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple stores
- Works well under pressure and handles challenges with confidence
- Is computer literate and comfortable using Microsoft Office
- Holds a Matric (a Diploma or B-Tech in Retail Management is advantageous)
