Mama Money is a growth stage fintech startup working to help migrant workers in South Africa send money home. Since 2015 we have been providing reliable remittances, at a socially fair price, to those that need it most.

Mama HQ is in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa. We are 131 people strong (and counting) from 19 countries across Africa, Asia, the UK, and Europe. Area Managers at Mama Money are crucial to our success and growth. As we expand our operations and aim to become market leaders in South Africa, we need dynamic leaders who can drive sales, optimise the sales team's performance, and achieve revenue targets.

This strategic position requires someone who can effectively lead and motivate a sales team, and execute smart sales strategies to penetrate new markets. The Area Manager will play a key role in driving growth, profitability and shaping our position as a market leader in the industry.


As our Area Manager, you will:

  • Ensure that the Super Agents' outreach budgets are requested timeously and to the required process
  • Distribute Marketing Material wherever it is needed within the region/ province
  • Communicate all relevant updates to product, process and structure with all the prospective Agents in the region/province
  • Ensure seamless recruitment and onboarding of all new agents. Manage the offboarding of agents.
  • Focus on the onboarding of unique customers from target corridors to drive specific regional targets.
  • Conduct door-to-door campaigns in all the farms, customer hot-spot areas and cities around the region/province.
  • Drive around the region/province supporting agent Growth Point check ins and executions and agent outreach
  • Growth Point champion - Recruitment, set up and permissions, relationship building with partners and day to day management
  • Assist in performance managing all agents and super agents in the area responsible for
  • Lead the activation set up, execution and performance at community and other events
  • Assist and manage agent and product queries
  • Promote loyalty and morale within the agent team
  • Ensure that the Mama Money culture and values are instilled and upheld by all the Super and Field Agents in the region/province. As the Provincial Agent Supervisor, you will need to lead by example as you are the ultimate Brand Ambassador for the organisation in the region/province.
  • Assist in training new recruits and training existing agents on product updates and enhancements.

About you:

  • Strong coordinating, execution and communication skills, enabling you to effectively motivate and inspire the sales team.
  • Basic Sales report skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills and partner relationship building skills.
  • Ability to support and solve problems.
  • Ability to execute fast within a challenging environment - Growth points and outreaches.
  • Bias for action, can-do attitude, rolling up sleeves to get things done.
  • Stay in touch with competitor movements.
  • Basic admin and process management skills.

It would be a bonus if:

  • You have experience working in MamaMoney or other MTO’s currently.
  • You have shown leadership experience in teams.
  • You have cash saved up to opt into a fleet program.

In your first 90 days at Mama Money you will:

  • Get to know your team as a new Area Manager and Leader.
  • Visit all your Growth Points and get familiar with the Growth Point strategy in your area and tracking.
  • Take ownership of all administrative processes requested.
  • Understand and communicate the main challenges.
  • Understand the Marketing and distribution function to support.
  • Own agent recruitment, onboarding and training processes to agents.
  • Have a good understanding of our product and value proposition compared to competitors.
  • Drive Agent education and feedback to Customer Growth.

R4 000 - R20 000 a month
Salary Details for Permanent contracted role
R4,000.00 basic salary
Estimated R8,000.00 - R20,000.00 commission on average - Commission has no limits to team size and performance.
This means an Area manager can get higher than the average stated amounts.
