What you will do as an Airport Civil Engineer
As an Airport Civil Engineer, you will form part of the South African Aviation team and will work with our colleagues in Airport Asset Design based in the Netherlands. With your background and knowledge in civil engineering, you would provide support to our Airports team while having the opportunity to garner or further develop your experience in consultancy services within the Aviation Profession. While providing Airside Civil Engineering solutions for our clients, you would address individual aspects and/or specific systems. You assist in the provision of project solutions in a multi-disciplinary environment and airport operational processes.
As a member of our Airport Civil Engineering team based in South Africa, you will work on projects worldwide and:
- Assist in study and design projects and take responsibility for project results and deliverables.
- Help develop engineering solutions and help expand our capabilities.
- Assist in other Airport Civil Engineering related consultancy services.
Your Responsibilities
In this position, you will perform the following tasks as part of the Civil Engineering team:
- Responsible for 2D/3D geometrical design modelling work of civil airport infrastructure (e.g. runways, taxiways, aprons, earthworks, drainage, etc.) according to international airport codes and standards (ICAO).
- Produce the relevant technical modelling and drawing work in all its aspects (schematics, 3D models, layouts, sections, details, etc.) using project specified software such as Autodesk Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.
- Carry out associated calculations for input into the design reports, specifications, and the bills of quantities.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary design teams within a BIM environment, assist with BIM model coordination using CDE platforms and tools such as Asite, Vault, and BIM360.
- On project level, operate as an integral member of the design team and interact with other discipline designers, such as pavements and airside systems.
- Collaborate on the automation of design processes and development of 3D design tools.
- In the Aviation Team, co-operate with and share knowledge with other designers.
What you bring
Working in multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams spread across different countries is no problem for you. You have an inclination towards technical work on systems and would like to further explore this domain in the world of aviation and further professionalize yourself there. Besides that, you have:
- A Bachelor or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or similar related Engineering.
- 6 or more years work experience in consulting engineering, as a designer/modeller in infrastructure projects such as roads and drainage.
- An affinity for civil engineering design with some experience/exposure in aviation preferred.
- Proficiency in 3D computer aided design (CAD) software, including Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
- Experience in Microsoft Excel and Programming using Dynamo, Python, etc. will be advantageous.
- Good oral and written communication skills in English; additional languages will be considered a plus.
