Job description

Major, Lindsey & Africa’s Interim Legal Talent group has an immediate need for an interim Employment Counsel to cover a four-month leave on its in-house employment team.


Overview: Our client is seeking an interim Employment Counsel to field basic employment questions from HR and its corporate employees, monitor and report on evolving compliance issues, handle questions regarding the client’s H-1B and contractor workforce, and update HR policies as needed.


Company: Publicly traded, leading provider of home service plans.


Experience: Successful candidate will have 5 or more years of basic employment experience between law firm and in-house environments.


Location: Fully remote.


Responsibilities Include:

  1. Field and respond to basic employment questions from HR and business partners regarding employee leave, PTO, accommodation requests under the EEOC, termination issues and other related matters as needed. (50%)
  2. Monitor the evolving regulatory landscape governing employment law to help ensure the client’s compliance using law firm alerts, technology tools like Practical Law, and other sources. This could include meeting with HR bi-weekly to provide updates. (30%)
  3. Work with HR partners to update employment policies. (10%)
  4. Address questions related to the client’s H-1B workforce and help HR navigate questions related to its field contract labor pool. (5%)
  5. Handle other basic employment and legal matters as needed. (5%)

Qualifications Include:

  1. At least 5 years of employment law experience providing general advice and counsel, gained in a law firm setting and further developed in an in-house environment.
  2. At least 5 years of experience with employment compliance issues.
  3. Some prior experience addressing issues with H-1B workers and navigating issues related to a contract labor pool.
  4. Active bar license in good standing in at least 1 US jurisdiction.

Pay rate: $90 to $100 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.
