Job description

540 is looking for a Full Stack Engineer to help USCIS build applications using modern open source technologies hosted on AWS. You can expect a fast-paced environment in which the team will be providing user-centered design, development, security and operations services, and data science in support of USCIS Information Technology Biometrics and Scheduling Systems Delivery. You will work day-to-day on a full-lifecycle DevOps team, estimating, designing, developing and testing optimized features for deployment. In addition, you will work with your contemporaries to identify areas for improvement and optimize the systems to enhance partner integration, system stability, security and data integrity on a continual path to modernizing the immigration experience for USCIS benefits seekers on their immigration journeys. Your mission will be very important; the work you do will directly impact the immigration experience for all immigration benefits applicants! USCIS administers the nation's lawful immigration system, safeguarding its integrity and promise by efficiently and fairly adjudicating requests for immigration benefits while protecting Americans, securing the homeland, and honoring our values.

Location: Remote within the continental United States, East Coast working hours with some flexibility afforded
Citizenship & Clearance Requirement: per client requirements, must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a DHS Public Trust clearance
Education Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related engineering field (preferred)

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of software development experience
  • Well-versed in Java and Spring Boot
  • Experience building cloud solutions in AWS preferably
  • Database experience (SQL, Oracle)
  • Experience with automation and engineering tasks, implementation, data, infrastructure/operations, and security engineer tasks
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working in a team environment

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with Kubernetes
  • Experience with Apache Kafka
  • Agile Delivery experience
  • Experience working with the government, specifically with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
