Job description

OVERVIEW

Responsible for the training and care of all assigned GROW trainees, and maintain a high standard of the sheltered workshop activities, premises, and facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities of the GROW Workshop Instructor are described below. This job description can be revised periodically, subject to the needs of the organisation.

General Work Management

  1. Plan, support and implement programmes and services of GROW, in consultation with GROW Executives and HOD.
  2. Carry out the workshop routine administration and supervise/manage operational matters.
  3. Lead a team of Workshop Instructor Aides in the daily operational requirements.
  4. Engage with Partners in the logistics and production of goods and services.
  5. Establish rapport and liaison with Partners and Customers to provide quality services.
  6. Ensure that workshop rules pertaining to personal safety, procedures in handling of work hazards and prescribed training procedures are adhered to by staff and trainees. This includes carrying out planning and emergency evacuation procedures for trainees/staff.
  7. Carry out proper and regular housekeeping of work site and facilities; do regular inventory checking and recording of procedures/protocols; perform regular equipment maintenance duties and ensure cleanliness and tidiness of work and storage areas.
  8. Support and attend Association activities and training.

Trainees’ Performance and Welfare

  1. Develop Individual Training Plan (ITP) for trainees assigned based on their capability and skills and carry out activities for trainees based on their ITP.
  2. Work with Workshop Instructor Aides to develop and set ITP goals for every trainee in the workshop.
  3. Supervise trainees in carrying out of tasks such that project assignments from business partners are fulfilled.
  4. Maintain proper and clear accounts of income, expenditures and work done from operations of assigned projects in GROW.
  5. Maintain proper system and record of administration of trainees’ ITP; attendance and training programme records; and other administrative records in accordance with the Programme Evaluation System / Best Practice Guidelines.
  6. Ensure the welfare of trainees, referring any inappropriate client behaviour or welfare needs to the appropriate professional service for intervention.
  7. Ensure trainees' safety, attendance, punctuality and welfare at the workshop and other areas (such as during travelling/outings). Ensure that trainees are always supervised during outdoor activities.
  8. Update and maintain the trainees’ records in CIMS system on a six-monthly basis, ensuring the accuracy of information.
  9. Liaise with parents/guardians of trainees pertaining to the trainees’ management.
  10. Always preserve the confidentiality of trainee information.
  11. Undertake any other duties as assigned by the GROW Executive and Manager.

Prospective Trainees and Students on Attachment

  1. Assign suitable daily tasks and provide training for trainees on probation and students on attachment.
  2. Assist in monitoring, assessing and providing feedback to prospective trainees and students on attachment.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Have Diploma & ‘A” Level or / ‘O’ level or NITEC certificate.
  2. Have good organisational skills.
  3. Have a compassionate and patient personality.
  4. Experience in working with persons with special needs is an added advantage.
