Job Summary:
As a Wintel Deployment Engineer (Level 2), you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and management of Windows-based server environments within the organization. Working alongside senior engineers, you will handle complex deployment projects, troubleshoot system issues, and ensure the overall stability and performance of Windows servers. Your role will also involve collaborating with other IT teams to integrate new technologies and enhance system efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Server Deployment and Configuration:
Design, deploy, and configure Windows Server operating systems (e.g., Windows Server 2016/2019/2022) across physical and virtual environments.
Implement and manage server roles and features such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, file services, and Group Policy.
Develop server deployment scripts and automation tools to streamline provisioning processes. - Patch Management and Updates:
Develop and maintain patch management strategies using tools like Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), or similar solutions.
Plan and execute scheduled patching activities while ensuring minimal impact on production systems.
Perform regular vulnerability assessments and apply security patches in accordance with organizational policies. - Monitoring and Performance Optimization:
Monitor server performance metrics using monitoring tools (e.g., Microsoft System Center Operations Manager, Nagios, etc.) to identify and address performance issues.
Implement performance tuning techniques and optimizations to enhance server responsiveness and resource utilization.
Conduct capacity planning exercises to forecast server resource requirements based on business growth and demand. - Backup and Recovery Planning:
Design, implement, and manage server backup solutions to ensure data protection and disaster recovery readiness.
Develop and maintain backup and recovery procedures, conduct regular tests, and update recovery plans as needed.
Coordinate with stakeholders to define recovery time objectives (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO) for critical systems. - Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of server configurations, deployment processes, and troubleshooting guidelines.
Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to junior team members and support staff.
Contribute to knowledge base articles, best practices, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the team.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Diploma/Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Proven experience in Windows server administration, deployment, and management in enterprise environments.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server operating systems, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and related technologies.
- Experience with server virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation using PowerShell, batch scripting, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with backup and recovery solutions (e.g., Veeam Backup & Replication, Windows Server Backup, etc.).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex server issues.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
