Position Overview
The Vice President (VP) of Infrastructure will play a critical role in the management, sourcing, and execution of investment opportunities for the infrastructure fund. The individual will work closely with senior management to formulate the strategic direction of the fund’s investment portfolio, oversee the due diligence process, lead investment teams, and manage relationships with external stakeholders such as co-investors, advisors, and regulators.
As a key member of the team, the VP will be responsible for identifying attractive investment opportunities, structuring complex deals, performing financial modelling and analysis, and ultimately driving the fund’s growth and returns. The VP will also contribute to the fund's overall strategy, including capital raising efforts and portfolio management.
This VP role requires a strategic, hands-on leader with a proven track record in infrastructure investing. The individual will manage the entire investment lifecycle – from sourcing deals and conducting due diligence to executing transactions and managing the portfolio. The position requires strong leadership skills, an analytical mindset, and a deep understanding of the infrastructure investment landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Investment Sourcing & Strategy Development
- Identify and source new investment opportunities in the infrastructure sector, with a focus on core infrastructure (e.g., energy, utilities, transport, telecommunications, logistics and digital infrastructure).
- Develop and maintain relationships with industry professionals, advisors, brokers, and other deal sources to ensure a strong pipeline of opportunities.
- Assess market trends and industry dynamics to identify sectors and regions with the most attractive risk-adjusted return profiles.
- Work closely with senior leadership to develop the overall investment strategy for the fund, including sector allocation, geographic focus, and deal types.
Deal Execution & Structuring
- Lead the structuring, negotiation, and execution of infrastructure investments, including both equity and debt financing.
- Oversee and manage due diligence processes, including financial, legal, operational, and regulatory assessments, working closely with external advisors and internal teams.
- Conduct detailed financial modelling to assess the investment’s risk and return profile, using tools such as discounted cash flow (DCF) analysis, sensitivity analysis, and scenario modelling.
- Collaborate with legal and finance teams to structure transactions, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and developing appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
- Prepare investment memoranda and presentations for the fund’s Investment Committee, providing clear, concise, and actionable insights.
Portfolio Management & Monitoring
- Oversee the performance of investments in the portfolio, ensuring that all projects are delivered on-time, within budget, and in line with the fund's investment thesis.
- Monitor portfolio companies through regular interaction with management teams and tracking performance against financial and operational KPIs.
- Identify and implement value-enhancing initiatives, including cost optimisation, strategic partnerships, or operational improvements in portfolio assets.
- Support senior leadership in the exit strategy development and execution for portfolio investments, ensuring value realisation through sales, IPOs, or refinancing.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and mentor junior professionals (Analysts, Associates) on the team, providing coaching, feedback, and career development guidance.
- Foster a collaborative team environment, ensuring efficient communication, cross-functional collaboration, and effective project management.
- Represent the fund externally in investor meetings, conferences, and industry events, helping to build the fund’s reputation in the infrastructure investment community.
Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including co-investors, financial institutions, regulators, and external advisors.
- Assist in fundraising activities, presenting to potential investors and providing them with information on the fund’s strategy, performance, and investment opportunities.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for investors regarding portfolio updates, fund performance, and strategic initiatives.
Skills and Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Business, or related field; an MBA or relevant post-graduate degree is highly preferred.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in infrastructure investing, private equity, investment banking, or related fields.
- Experience with infrastructure sectors such as energy, utilities, transportation, digital infrastructure, logistics and renewable energy is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience in sourcing, structuring, negotiating, and executing infrastructure deals across multiple sectors and regions.
- Strong network within the infrastructure investment and development community, including relationships with potential co-investors, advisors, and portfolio company management teams.
- Demonstrable experience of dealing with and managing state-owned enterprises from China.
Technical & Analytical Skills
- Proficiency in financial modelling (DCF, LBO, M&A, IRR analysis) and advanced Excel skills.
- Deep understanding of infrastructure asset management, financial structuring, and project finance.
- Knowledge of regulatory and legal frameworks affecting infrastructure investments, including tax structures, government incentives, and public-private partnerships (PPPs).
- Ability to assess risk and return on investments, with a proven track record of executing profitable deals.
Leadership & Interpersonal Skills
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with a track record of managing and mentoring junior professionals.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex financial and investment concepts to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, while also being highly collaborative with cross-functional teams (legal, finance, operations, etc.).
- Strong negotiation skills and a proven ability to lead deal discussions to successful completion.
