Job description

Our client is a well known shipping brand. Currently, they are seeking a well qualified candidate to join them as Vessel Performance & Operations Manager (Prior Sea Experience an asset).

Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with HQ to enhance operational efficiency and performance across their vessels operations. This role involves the development and monitoring of operational KPIs, optimizing bunker consumption, and improving data quality, all while ensuring cost-effective operations.
  • Develop and monitor operational KPIs, such as port productivity, crane split, and idle time.
  • Track and manage bunker consumption, ensuring alignment with strategies from HQ.
  • Assist in improving the quality of operational data.
  • Monitor KPIs and initiate actions to improve or change trends.
  • Encourage operations team to proactively reduce bunker consumption using inhouse tools and other improvement tools.
  • Promote cost-conscious and proactive operational practices.
  • Engage with agents, ports, and terminals to expedite dispatch, reduce port costs, and optimize sailing speeds to the next port.
  • Compare performance with contracts or historical performance.
  • Identify and address gaps in vessel management to optimize consumption and passage planning.
  • Validate vessel reports and the data in the data warehouse.
  • Monitor actual distances sailed to ensure vessels are performing optimally.
  • Conduct daily/weekly reviews of cost savings and report findings.
  • Participate in monthly meetings to discuss savings with HQ.
  • Assist Operations Director with the KPI presentations and creation of targets related to bunker consumption, productivity, etc.
  • Actively involved in post fixture of vessels including off hire claims/speed claims.
  • Monitor vessel routing as provided to vessels by weather service providers.
  • Liaise with owners regarding vessel performance improvement initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Maritime Studies or related field.
  • Experience as a Master Mariner background will be a definite asset. Or a CE or 2nd Engineer background from Engine side can also be considered.
  • 2 to 3 years experience in vessel performance management.
  • Strong understanding of container networks and their requirements.
  • Self-motivated with a strong analytical mindset.
