Responsibilities:

  1. Responsibility for underwriting Members in Southeast Asia, Japan, and Australasia.
  2. Manage the development of the business within assigned areas of responsibility and identify areas of additional service that will add value to the Member/Club relationship within agreed parameters of existing and potential business.
  3. Handle underwriting tasks in line with company procedures.
  4. Initiate loss prevention action where necessary.
  5. Produce required Management Reports as necessary.
  6. Operate effective risk management and credit controls.
  7. Implement Underwriting policy within authorised parameters.
  8. Provide effective communication of underwriting issues within the assigned underwriting team and allocate monitoring and supervision of underwriting work to ensure that service levels are met.
  9. Ensure all members of the assigned underwriting team adhere to companywide operating procedures.
  10. Assist in developing team knowledge and skills – CPD.
  11. Conduct annual appraisals of direct reports (with Head of Underwriting for Syndicate).
  12. Assist the Managing Director for Asia Pacific, Head of Underwriting, and Chief Commercial Officer in identifying and planning business targets and executing on the same, building the book of business in line with the Company aims.
  13. Liaise closely with existing Members, prospective targets, and the broking community in advancing the Company aims.
  14. Encourage and support an environment where a process of continuous improvement can flourish and foster the Company culture.
  15. Ensure that all files and confidential records are maintained in accordance with company policy.
  16. Attend training and develop relevant knowledge and skills.
  17. Travel will be required as necessary both regionally and to our global office network.
  18. Representation at industry events and speaking requirements where necessary.

Person Specification:

  • Proven Underwriting management experience gained from working at another P&I Club and/or marine insurer, marine insurance broker or shipowner.
  • The ability to mentor and inspire team members, including the ability to develop underwriting expertise, training, and development.
  • Outstanding communication skills, including negotiating, presenting, and reporting (written and verbal).
  • Thought leader with the ability to acquire new business and develop existing business relationships both internally and externally.
  • Aware of current market issues, well-connected, and able to build relationships with brokers and Members.
  • Degree educated.
  • Eligibility to work in Singapore preferred or alternatively a willingness to relocate.
  • Proactive and able to use own initiative.
