Job Description

The position within the Institutional Credit Management Underwriting Team focuses on underwriting, approval, portfolio management, and administration of a multi-billion-dollar warehousing loan portfolio secured by pools of consumer receivables, MSME business loans, or residential mortgages. The role collaborates closely with various internal stakeholders, including risk management and origination teams, to support the underwriting and management of securitized loans.

Responsibilities

  1. Review and respond to underwriting requests for credit extensions related to new and existing clients, including conducting annual reviews of complex securitized loan portfolios.
  2. Perform due diligence, prepare internal credit committee approval packages, and facilitate the approval process.
  3. Collaborate with loan/bond sale teams for syndication or sale of loans to other lenders and bond investors, as well as engage with rating agencies as required.
  4. Monitor and prepare periodic reviews of borrower compliance with financial covenants, triggers, and other terms outlined in credit agreements.
  5. Develop a thorough understanding of credit and regulatory policies to ensure compliance and maintain satisfactory internal and external audit ratings.
  6. Work towards achieving a Credit Officer designation by leveraging existing credit expertise.
  7. Provide support to other underwriting team members, ensuring efficient delivery of underwriting services and recommending process improvements for greater efficiency.
  8. Potential travel outside of the home base for client meetings, asset portfolio due diligence, and training opportunities.
  9. Assess and mitigate risks in business decisions while maintaining compliance with applicable laws, policies, and ethical standards.

Qualifications

  1. 5-8+ years of credit experience, with a minimum of 5+ years in securitized loan underwriting or a related field.
  2. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  3. Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under tight deadlines, and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  4. Strong quantitative skills with high proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office programs.
  5. Excellent analytical and technical skills with the ability to quickly adapt to new technologies.
  6. Demonstrated experience in applying lending underwriting guidelines and familiarity with rating agency processes for securitized products is preferred.
  7. Strong attention to detail with the ability to independently manage client relationships while maintaining internal and external stakeholder engagement.
  8. Ability to read, comprehend, and summarize legal documents collected during due diligence or provided by legal counsel.
  9. Knowledge of market-standard syndicated loan structures is preferred.
  10. Willingness to travel (10-20% of the time) on short notice.
  11. Bilingual proficiency in English and Mandarin (written and spoken) is required to support the China market.
