TEACHER (Special Education)

(AWWA School@Napiri)

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Quality Teaching and Learning
    1. Prepare semestral goals and progress reports and discuss with parents in the case conference.
    2. Plan and deliver interesting and meaningful lessons (in all areas of curriculum) to engage students.
    3. Assess and report learning outcomes through Individual Education Plan (IEP)/ Individual Transition Plan (ITP).
    4. Conduct other group activities for students including hydrotherapy or swimming.
    5. Manage behavior using appropriate behavior intervention strategies.
    6. Be responsible for all matters pertaining to the assigned class or school activities.
    7. Provide support and guidance to teacher assistant in the areas of teaching and learning.
    8. Provide support and guidance to class warden in the areas of ADL/Life Skills.
    9. Provide support to untrained or beginning teachers in the area of teaching and learning CCA.
    10. Plan and conduct CCA.
    11. Maintain records of students’ attendance and progress in the CCA.
  2. Contribution to school
    1. Assist in the coordination of events and committees.
  3. Collaboration
    1. Work closely and effectively with parents/ caregivers, Allied Health Professionals (AHPs), other AWWA services and volunteers.
    2. Establish an enriching and safe learning environment (within and beyond own classroom) that enhances student learning.
    3. Report any accident or injury that may occur to students to the Principal and submit the necessary report.
  4. Other expectations
    1. To attend relevant courses to upgrade his/her skills and submit reports.
    2. To share responsibilities for the upkeep, maintenance and inventory of all equipment, teaching aids etc in the classroom.
    3. To share innovative ideas with colleagues at department level and/or school level.
    4. To attend meetings, case discussions, home visits and other relevant staff development training.

Qualifications

  1. Min. GCE ‘A’ Levels or Polytechnic Diploma with a credit in English at ‘O’ Levels or Trained Special Education Teacher.
  2. At least 2 years of relevant working experience.
  3. Experience working with persons with disabilities is an added advantage.

Knowledge/Skills

  1. Ability to co-lead a group of teachers and/or teacher assistants.
  2. Ability to contribute to group dynamics.
