Summary
As a Tanker Operator, you are responsible for all commercial day-to-day operations of the voyage- and time-chartered/owned fleet, focused on vessels located in the Middle East and Asia. This function is also the key contact person for Shippers, Brokers, Operators, Captains, and technical managers when it comes to instructions, clarifications, and documents for spot/contract-chartered tonnage as well as fuel bunkering for time-chartered/owned vessels in the Middle East and Asia. The tanker operator is also responsible for the accurate voyage-related data-keeping in IMOS as well as tracking the performance of individual ships.
Key Responsibilities
Vessel Coordination:
- Build strong relationships with Brokers, other commercial operators, and vessel’s Masters
- Ensure excellent communication between Shippers, Shipowners, Brokers, Chartering team, and Receivers
- Protect the firm’s commercial interest in shipping Methanol from the Middle East/American continent to Asia
- Support Master of owned/time-chartered vessels in daily operations
- Make periodical assessments of ships
- Provide adequate voyage instructions
- Keep track of vessels off-hire and declare vessels off-hire when applicable
- Maintain KPIs for vessel’s performance and keep data updated for assigned area
- Verify and prepare Shipping documents (Bill of Lading, LOI, etc.)
Port Coordination:
- Build strong relationships with agents and make nominations
- Coordinate ship-agent communication
- Maintain KPIs for measuring times in port and keep data updated for all assigned ports
- Coordinate shipping documentation
Communication and Data Keeping:
- Keep all relevant parties informed of the schedules and of any changes
- Maintain organized voyage files
- Maintain excellent level of communication with customers and provide relevant information as required
- Verify and approve daily vessel reports in IMOS
- Review and pre-approve estimated port cost and final disbursement accounts
- Accurately calculate bunker consumption and manage fuel inventory for methanol and conventional fuels on board managed tankers
Bunker Procurement:
- Plan and execute bunker procurement for managed tankers
Job Dimension:
- Will report to the Operations Manager at the company’s Shipping (based in HQ in Europe) with Co-reporting to the Regional Product Manager (based in Singapore’s regional office)
- Works in very close collaboration with the commercial team at production locations, and the Marketing & Logistics Team in Singapore
- Represents the company when talking to agents, brokers, freight customers, fuel suppliers/brokers/traders
- The role requires understanding of commercial impacts around bunker procurement, vessel performance, charter parties and potential impacts in case of incorrect documentation/instructions.
- Mobility requirements (time spent traveling internationally, nationally, etc.): 5%
Education and Work Experience:
- At least 3 years’ experience in the chemical tanker industry
- Profound understanding of the deep-sea shipping business and markets
- Experience in IMOS
- Profound knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel
- Excellent command of written and spoken English, Mandarin is an asset (given that the role will interact with customers in Mandarin)
- Diploma or Degree holder (in any Majors)

The company is based in town and offers WFH arrangement 2 days a week.
