Job description

Business Function Group Technology enables and empowers the bank with an efficient, nimble and resilient infrastructure through a strategic focus on productivity, quality & control, technology, people capability and innovation. In Group T&O, we manage the majority of the Bank's operational processes and inspire to delight our business partners through our multiple banking delivery channels.

The Technical Lead of Observability COE will lead and oversee the governance, strategic direction, and adoption of the bank’s observability platforms. This role is critical in ensuring that our observability platforms are efficiently managed and support the bank's operational and strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  1. Leadership & Strategy: Lead the Centre of Excellence (COE) for Observability platforms to drive strategic initiatives that enhance site reliability, systems monitoring and application performance across the Bank, in alignment with the bank’s overall technology strategy.
  2. Develop the overall roadmap, standards, frameworks and governance for observability tools and practices to promote consistency, efficiency and regulatory compliance.
  3. Monitor and assess observability implementations to ensure compliance with established governance policies for Observability.
  4. Lead efforts to standardise Observability platforms across the organisation, driving efficiency and reducing complexity.
  5. Drive adoption of observability platforms and practices across all technology teams. Provide guidance and support for implementation.
  6. Collaborate with business units, technology stakeholders and external partners to understand observability needs. Align COE strategy and solutions accordingly.
  7. Monitor industry and technology trends. Drive innovations to optimize systems monitoring and progress towards the goal of 1-5-10 (1 minute to detect, 5 minutes to triage and 10 minutes to recover) for system recovery.
  8. Serve as a primary point of contact for observability-related inquiries, providing expert guidance and support to stakeholders.

Requirements

  1. Degree in Computer Science or related field with at least 10 years of relevant work experience in technology roles.
  2. Strong technical background with extensive experience architecting and managing observability platforms.
  3. Proven track record of leading strategic initiatives and driving adoption of enterprise-wide solutions in a senior leadership role, preferably in financial services industry.
  4. Excellent communication, collaboration and stakeholder management skills to engage cross-functional teams.
  5. Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams.
  6. Ability to understand business needs and translate them into technology roadmaps and solutions.
