Strategy and Business Development Associate

Overview

The D. E. Shaw group seeks a talented individual to join its APAC Strategy and Business Development group in Singapore, as a special projects associate. The scope of this position will span a wide number of business units, with particular emphasis on corporate development and regional business management and operations. This role offers an opportunity to help develop and execute the firm’s Asia-Pacific strategy by working on business planning and governance, defining and executing operational initiatives for APAC businesses, enhancing employee experience with a focus on recruitment and retention, career development and DEI, expansion planning, facilitating information-flow between APAC and HQ, and optimizing workflows with firm tools.

Additionally, the position will involve contributing to the broader management of the firm’s APAC business and affords the chance to be part of an inclusive, collaborative, and engaging working environment.

What you'll do day-to-day

Your responsibilities will include expected workstreams such as:

· Overseeing APAC office space planning

· Collaborating with COO to perform risk assessments for new APAC businesses

· Creating affinity groups and fellowship opportunities for APAC

· Organizing an APAC-focused Manager Development Program

· Standardizing APAC policy-writing and annual goal-setting processes

The role will involve close internal collaboration with teams in other offices, especially Shanghai, Hong Kong, London, and New York.

Who we're looking for

• Applicants should have a bachelor’s or graduate degree, an impressive record of academic and professional achievement, and four to six years of relevant experience in project management and/or strategy-focused roles.
• Experience in the financial services industry is a plus but not required.
• Applicants should be creative and commercially minded, with excellent critical thinking, project management, and verbal and written communication skills.
