About the role
We are looking for a Specialist, Operations (Marine) who will be responsible for operating vessels and providing subject matter expertise for the daily execution of allocated voyages and time-chartered vessels.
The incumbent in this position is accountable for the efficient execution of allocated voyages and maximizing the profitability of every voyage in close cooperation with the vessel masters and commercial teams, with a focus on productivity and critical thinking. This role may require direct communication with ship masters to advise, monitor, and act on on-water and port interface activities to maintain operational integrity.
Reporting to the Supervisor – Capes Operations, you will:
Interpret charter party contracts across different trade routes.
Work with existing policy and manage compliance with Rio Tinto standards and expectations.
Develop and issue voyage instructions and manage voyage formalities.
Work with the fuel procurement team to develop, manage, and execute bunkering plans and strategies.
Promptly and efficiently manage and track all day-to-day ‘on-water’ activities.
Follow up and close out on the Safety survey outcomes with Vessel/Owners.
Monitor vessel and fleet trends concerning bunker consumption.
Engage directly with ship masters to manage all voyage risk exposures.
Engage with ship owners regarding vessel performance and safety.
Work with port operations advising and assisting in port safety management.
Engage port and agency nominees to manage all port interactions.
Effectively manage communications with internal and external stakeholders.
Manage and negotiate operational disputes with ship owners and receivers.
Maximize the profitability of every voyage in close cooperation with the commercial team, accountable for P&L on voyages and managing/explaining variances.
Use relevant performance tools to monitor, manage, and report fleet performance & efficiency.
Manage transparent and professional supplier relationships.
Engage actively in building customer knowledge and relationships.
Conduct post-voyage analysis and review.
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
A Degree/Diploma in Marine or related field.
3-5 years of experience in a bulk ship operator role.
Sea-going experience with good planning and organizing skills within allotted time frames.
Strong communication skills.
Strong numeric and analytical skills.
Sound negotiation skills.
IMOS experience.
Good team player.
