What we’re looking for

The Shipping Market Analyst role will play a pivotal part in supporting LR Advisory projects by delivering data-driven insights and market intelligence on global shipping markets and the broader ocean economy. This role involves analyzing trade flows, fleet developments, regulatory impacts and commercial dynamics to provide strategic decision-making support for clients.

By leveraging both quantitative and qualitative research, the Shipping Market Analyst will contribute to client reports, presentations and advisory deliverables, helping clients identify market opportunities and navigate risks. This role will involve close collaboration with project consultants and subject matter experts, ensuring that all advisory project outcomes are based on robust, accurate and actionable market analysis.

The role

  • Collaborate with the global Advisory team to support data analysis, development, maintenance of databases and the development of presentations to support client engagements.
  • Produce and develop insightful market intelligence and content around shipping, energy and commodity markets.
  • Monitor and interpret global shipping trends, including supply and demand dynamics, freight rates, and geopolitical factors.
  • Utilize data analytics tools to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business development initiatives with market intelligence.
  • Engage with clients and industry professionals to gather information and strengthen relationships.
  • Utilize data visualization tools to present complex data in an understandable manner.
  • Stay updated on industry developments by attending webinars, conferences, and networking events.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in economics, finance, maritime studies, or a related field.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and market trends.
  • Experience in shipping, commodities, or energy markets, preferably in a research or advisory role.
  • Proficiency in market modelling, forecasting techniques and data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, or Python.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly to clients and internal teams.
  • Understanding of key shipping market drivers, including supply and demand dynamics, regulatory developments, and macroeconomic factors.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a project-based environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
