Senior UX Designer (Accessibility) - 2 year contract

We are looking for a Senior UX Designer (Accessibility) as a 2 year contract employee to join us! You will thrive in design sprints and lean UX methodologies as we tackle ambiguous problems and deliver workable prototypes that are executable. You will play a crucial role in ensuring that our products meet and exceed accessibility standards, providing an optimal user experience for everyone, including users with disabilities. You will work alongside a lean team of designers and engineers from discovery to envisioning activities with a mission to fix user experience problems.

A brief summary of your job responsibility:

Within Your First Month:

• Gain a solid understanding of the project roadmap, team vision, rituals, and design process.
• Create user experiences that are accessible to all users, including those with visual, auditory, cognitive, and motor impairments. Ensure designs comply with WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and other relevant accessibility standards.
• Independently manage research and design tasks with confidence.
• Engage with both external and internal stakeholders, co-facilitating workshops as needed.

By the End of 3 Months:

• Propose research and design plans for new projects, becoming deeply involved in all aspects of design work.
• Perform regular accessibility audits and usability testing with users of varying abilities to identify and resolve accessibility issues. Ensure continuous compliance with accessibility standards.
• Successfully conclude a project with a convincing presentation and a meticulous handover plan, ensuring continuity of design excellence with A11Y in mind.

Beyond That:

• Keep up to date with the latest trends, tools, and regulations in accessibility and inclusive design, ensuring our products remain compliant and innovative.
• Document accessibility requirements, patterns, and best practices. Advocate for inclusive design principles across the team and organization.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams (designers, developers, product managers) to embed accessibility into the product lifecycle from concept through implementation.
• Build and maintain professional relationships with project leads, product owners, and business users to elevate the UX maturity within organizations.

To succeed in this role, you will ideally have:

• Proven UX experience with focus on accessibility and inclusive design, including experience in facilitating workshops, gathering requirements, conducting usability testing, envisioning flows, and delivering high-fidelity mockups.
• Deep understanding of WCAG 2.1 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines).
• Experience conducting accessibility testing and audits, using tools such as screen readers, keyboard navigation, and other assistive technologies.
• Familiarity with front-end development and understanding of how accessibility impacts code implementation is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving skill in proposing and presenting user-centered design solutions that consider project constraints.
• A collaborative mindset, understanding that co-creation with the team and stakeholders leads to the best product outcomes.
• Agility to find the quickest route to design, test, and ship a design prototype to validate a concept.
• A data-driven approach with experience in qualitative and quantitative user research, using insights to justify design decisions.
• Competence in translating user research into actionable design recommendations.
• Strong communication and analytical skills.
