Job description

The Wall Street Journal is seeking a senior supervising producer to oversee and produce news coverage as part of its global video team in Singapore.

We are looking for an experienced journalist with a stellar track record of producing timely international news, geopolitical and business analysis videos. World-class editorial judgment, team leadership and video production skills are essential to this position.

While you will help manage a Singapore-based team with the executive producer of international, this is a hands-on role that requires initiative and conscientiousness. Top candidates will possess a ‘team-first’ approach. They will be passionate about creating distinctive content that serves the core WSJ subscriber while appealing to a broader audience in ways that stand out in competitive, 24/7 information cycles.

You will be based in Singapore and will report to the Executive Producer of International. All interested candidates should submit a cover letter clearly outlining how their skills and experience meet or exceed the key candidate requirements, along with links to five videos that represent the type of work described. Applications without cover letters will not be considered.

You Will

  • Work with the Executive Producer and a team of video journalists to produce daily news and long-form, analytical feature videos
  • Propose distinctive, original, data-informed ideas on a daily basis, with a clear understanding as to what stories would resonate with the core WSJ audience
  • Work closely with video journalists to hone story angles, strengthen scripts and deliver high production value results
  • Provide clear, constructive and productive notes on scripts and videos in edit
  • Monitor live feeds and decisively produce breaking news events
  • Collaborate closely with key newsroom editors, global video team leaders and producers
  • Coach reporters and news editors to appear on camera or in voiceover
  • Mentor staff and provide innovative opportunities for their development and growth
  • Ensure that all journalistic, ethical and legal standards are diligently followed
  • Be willing to work late hours and occasional weekends, as breaking news developments and time zone considerations may warrant
  • Complete additional duties as assigned

You Have

  • At least eight years of experience producing distinctive content in a daily video news environment, under tight deadline pressure
  • Successful track record leading and managing video teams in a global news organization
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Strategic thinking and critical decision-making skills
  • World-class editorial and ethical judgment
  • Sharp, meticulous editing style, attention to detail and passion for elevating daily news and long-form news feature scripts
