Senior R&D Engineer (Cooling)

ENGIE Lab Singapore is the research center of ENGIE for Asia-Pacific, bringing technical expertise in APAC and developing local expertise by leveraging ENGIE Research networks. It plays a key coordinator/local technical support role in balancing R&D efforts with the business needs for the Group.

Since 2015, ENGIE Lab Singapore has addressed three technological areas: Smart-Grid, Future Industries, and Cities & New Gases. In 2020, the Lab refocused its strategy to strengthen expertise in commercial and industrial cooling, sustainable data centers, low carbon solutions, and local energy communities.

REPORTING LINE:

• Program Manager (Cooling)

ROLE DESCRIPTION:
You will join the Cooling R&D team responsible for executing various research projects related to low carbon cooling technologies. This role requires competencies in theoretical analysis, system modelling/simulation, data science, and proof-of-concept experiments. As a senior research engineer, you will oversee project deliverables and reports, mentor junior engineers and interns, and provide technical support to local business units.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Propose, plan, and conduct research on low carbon cooling technologies and new product/solution development for business applications;
• Perform techno watch to identify innovative technologies/solutions and new business opportunities;
• Conduct benchmark, technical & economic analysis and validation of technologies/solutions;
• Initiate new projects aligned with group R&D objectives;
• Contribute to projects requiring thermodynamic and heat transfer analysis, modelling/simulation, and cooling system knowledge;
• Support design, operation, and optimization of District Heating and Cooling (DHC) or building HVAC Systems;
• Participate in the demonstrator project locally in Singapore;
• Guide and lead engineers and interns, ensuring timely and quality deliverables;
• Collaborate with European experts and engage with local and outside business entities, academics, and research partners;
• Assist other R&D teams with consultation and project coordination;
• Report weekly to your manager.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• 5-10 years of experience in HVAC or energy industry with cooling-related R&D experience;
• Master or Ph.D. in related engineering fields;
• Strong knowledge of DHC, local cooling, and refrigeration systems;
• Data analytics, modeling, and simulation skills;
• Mastery of a specialized technical domain with high-level understanding of peripheral domains;
• Ability to adapt to strategy and market changes and technological evolutions;
• Knowledge of decarbonized solutions is an advantage.
