Job description
Key Responsibilities:
Research Leadership & Management:
Direct and oversee research programs or centres in catalysis, biomass conversion, and decarbonization technologies.
Foster collaboration among team members, cross-A*STAR institutes, and Singapore research institutions (universities,polytechnics, etc,) with external partners, government agencies, and key industry stakeholders.
Develop and manage research projects/programs from conception to execution, ensuring alignment with the ISCE2's strategic directions and objectives/missions.
Oversee budgeting and resource allocation for research projects/programs.
Innovation & Translational Research & Development
Drive innovation in the design and synthesis of various thermal catalysts, biomass conversion processes, and other cutting-edge decarbonization solutions.
Evaluate and implement new research methodologies, technologies, and research avenues to enhance productivity and outcomes.
Spearhead innovation translational research projects/programs aimed at bridging the gap between laboratory discoveries and real-world applications. This includes identifying promising research outcomes and developing strategies to translate these innovations into scalable technologies for industrial deployment.
Collaborate with industry partners and stakeholders to ensure research directions align with practical needs in decarbonization and renewable energy, facilitating the adoption of sustainable technologies and practices.
Build and maintain international partnerships with leading research institutions and industries in the world.
Represent the institute at various international forums and conferences in the fields of decarbonization, catalysis, and biomass conversion.
Publish high-impact research findings in top-tier journals and engage with the wider local & global scientific communities to promote the ISCE2's research and its implications for decarbonization and sustainable energy solutions.
Requirements:
Educational Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a related field, with a strong emphasis on heterogenous catalysis, decarbonization, biomass conversion and renewable energy.
Experience:
20 years of research experience in the relevant fields mentioned above.
Proven track record of successful leadership in managing large research programs or research groups, preferably within a research institute or academic setting.
Expertise:
Extensive knowledge and expertise in: design and synthesis of thermal catalysts; heterogeneous catalysis, particularly in relation to decarbonization and renewable energy applications; biomass conversion processes and technologies.
Recognized authority in the global research community related to catalysis, decarbonization, and biomass conversion.
Exceptional program/project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to facilitate collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
Proven ability to mentor and develop emerging research leaders & group leaders in the relevant fields.
Other requirements
A significant record of publications in high-impact journals.
Established authority in the field, with contributions to policy discussions and research initiatives focused on sustainability and decarbonization.
Demonstrated capacity to think strategically and innovate research directions to address emerging challenges in decarbonization and renewable energy.
