Senior Medical Social Worker

• Manage the training needs and professional development of staff
• Manage staff performance and appraisal
• Manage work distribution and leave coverage
• Provide supervision and case consultation especially for junior staff
• Review work processes to enhance efficiency
• Represent the MSW dept in internal and external meetings
• Convene and coordinate the Medifund Committee meetings
• Involvement in the Corporate Orientation of new staff
• Liaise with other organizations and network with them to enhance patient care

General Responsibilities:

• Perform social and financial assessment of patients and make recommendations
• Provide counseling to patients and families and lead in family conferences
• Participate in a multi-disciplinary team on patient care
• Casework: Address social-emotional problems of the patients and their families
• Assist in fulfilling the mission of the hospital
• Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

• Degree in Social Work / Post Graduate Diploma in Social Work
• A Registered Social Worker with the Social Work Accreditation Board
• Must have a genuine interest in working with the elderly in a hospital environment
• Ability to communicate in vernacular languages will be an advantage to converse with non-English speaking patients and family members
