Senior Mechanic

Roles & Responsibilities

• Location: Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 1
• Working Hours: 6 days (9hrs)

Job Responsibilities:

1. Purpose

To ensure the proper maintenance, repair, and inspection of towing vehicles and equipment, maintaining operational efficiency and safety.

2. Scope

Applies to all Senior Mechanics responsible for servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing towing trucks, tow arms, winches, and related mechanical systems.

3. Responsibilities

Routine Maintenance & Inspections

• Perform daily, weekly, and monthly preventive maintenance on towing trucks and equipment.
• Inspect hydraulic systems, winches, tow booms, and electrical components.
• Identify potential issues and report them before breakdowns occur.

Troubleshooting & Repairs

• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical failures in tow trucks.
• Repair or replace defective components (engine parts, transmission, hydraulic cylinders, etc.).
• Ensure all welding and fabrication work follows safety and quality standards.

Safety Compliance

• Follow workplace safety and health regulations (WSH Act, MOM guidelines).
• Conduct risk assessments before performing repairs.
• Ensure proper PPE (gloves, safety boots, goggles) is worn at all times.

Inventory & Reporting

• Maintain records of repairs, parts used, and maintenance schedules.
• Order spare parts and tools as needed, keeping track of stock levels.
• Report major faults to management and suggest solutions.

Team Supervision & Training

• Guide and train junior mechanics and technicians.
• Ensure all team members adhere to safety and maintenance standards.

4. Procedures

A. Preventive Maintenance Checklist

Daily Checks

• Inspect fluid levels (engine oil, transmission oil, coolant, brake fluid).
• Check for leaks, tire pressure, and proper brake function.

Weekly Checks

• Inspect winch cables, hydraulic hoses, and tow arms for wear and tear.
• Lubricate all moving parts and ensure smooth operation.

Monthly Checks

• Conduct a full diagnostic scan on engine performance.
• Perform load testing on towing winches and booms.

B. Breakdown & Emergency Repairs

• Assess and diagnose the problem.
• Inform the operations team and obtain necessary parts.
• Perform repairs following standard procedures.
• Test equipment functionality before releasing for operation.
• Log all repairs in the maintenance record system.

C. Safety Guidelines

• Always use jack stands when working under vehicles.
• Disconnect batteries before working on electrical systems.
• Never operate winches or booms without proper PPE.

5. Documentation & Reporting

• Submit weekly maintenance reports to the Operations Manager.
• Maintain a log of all spare parts used and update inventory regularly.
• Document all major repairs and accidents for future reference.

Requirement:

• Diploma or Certificate in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Heavy Vehicle Maintenance, or a related field.
• Equivalent vocational or trade school certification (e.g., ITE in Automotive Technology, NITEC in Mechanical Engineering).

Preferred:

• Higher NITEC, ITI (India), or WSQ certification in vehicle/mechanical repair.
• Manufacturer-specific certifications (e.g., Toyota, Volvo, Isuzu, Hino).

2. Work Experience

Required:

• 5+ years of experience as a mechanic, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.
• Hands-on experience in maintaining and repairing heavy vehicles, tow trucks, and hydraulic systems.
• Proficiency in diagnosing and fixing diesel engines, hydraulic lifts, winches, and transmission systems.

Preferred:

• Experience in fleet maintenance for a towing or logistics company.
• Previous work in manufacturing environments involving vehicle assembly or modifications.
• Experience using diagnostic software for engine troubleshooting (e.g., Cummins Insite, Volvo Tech Tool).
