Senior Manager/Manager (Research Facilities), Office of Research

Responsibilities:

The candidate will be responsible for the coordination and management of research facilities at SUTD. He/She should have relevant experience and technical expertise, coupled with an understanding of the needs of the research community. The candidate will work with relevant offices and departments at SUTD to best support and implement research projects, as well as raise awareness of SUTD’s research facilities capability to external partners.

Key responsibilities are likely to include the following:

• Provide technical and administrative support to the development and operations of research laboratories at SUTD;
• Track and maintain operating efficiency and utilisation of research space;
• Plan and execute preventive maintenance of research facilities;
• Liaise with equipment vendors for timely and cost effective maintenance of research infrastructure and facilities;
• Propose, design, develop, and implement guidelines for space utilization and optimization;
• Ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations (e.g. EHS) and maintain good housekeeping practices on equipment and research space;
• Implement continuous enhancement and innovations to improve processes and raise productivity;
• Maintain proper documentation, identify and measure key critical indicators, and provide regular reports (written and verbal presentations) to management;
• Work with and facilitate research collaboration among SUTD staff, faculty, researchers, students, and external partners such as industry, public sector and government;
• Be a resource to provide training, tutorials, consultation, and mentoring lab users and new staff;
• Prepare and manage department and maintenance budget;
• Manage and maintain records of research facility assets;
• Manage research export control matters;
• Support the Office of Research in advancing the research agenda of SUTD.

Requirements:

The eligibility criteria below are not exhaustive. The candidate should ideally:

• Have received a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering background;
• Have at least 5 years of experience with research experience, facilities operations and maintenance;
• Experience in export control, compliance, or a related role will be an added advantage;
• Strong understanding of regulatory compliance, Business Continuity Plans and risk management;
• Possess broad range of technical skills, and have established and operated systems for equipment scheduling and maintenance;
• Be able to work both independently and in a team environment, and to take ownership of, and autonomously carry forward, major aspects of assigned projects and tasks;
• Be resourceful, proactive and results-oriented with a positive attitude and the ability to communicate well with different stakeholders; and
• Be keen to integrate in and support a lively growing university research environment.
