Senior Manager / Manager, Chemical, Materials and Sustainability, Innovation & Enterprise
To gear A*STAR up for the innovation-driven economy set out by the Research Innovation & Enterprise 2025 Masterplan, a new Innovation & Enterprise Division ("Enterprise") is being established in late-2020. Enterprise will further strengthen A*STAR in generating economic and societal impact for Singapore. Importantly, Enterprise Division will provide coherence to A*STAR's RCA, licensing, and venture creation efforts.
It will drive A*STAR's companies strategy and companies portfolio management. Enterprise will also play a national role in terms of grants administration, over-watching national platforms like DxD Hub, and the Aerospace Programme, among others. It will be the focal point to drive Innovation & Enterprise (I&E) within A*STAR, as well as actively support I&E efforts in the wider ecosystem.
As part of the Chemical, Materials and Sustainability team, you will:
Job Responsibilities:
- Be responsible for review of technologies, prioritization and commercialization of A*STAR intellectual properties in the area of chemicals, materials and sustainability (which may include decarbonisation and electrification). The candidate will need to host companies, to market and commercialise technologies out from research labs and to assist in establishing the value chain with various key stakeholders.
- The candidate is expected to be proactive in scoping/supporting specific disruptive projects to develop and support initiatives to spur innovation. This may include working closely with both companies and the scientific community to apply for grants and contracts, and foster local ecosystem partnerships.
- The candidate will need to build and understand the emerging technology landscape, identifying key trends to accelerate spin-out, licensing, and provide leadership and oversight to achieve desired success related to project management.
- The candidate will be required to assess, manage, encourage, support the development and protection of intellectual property and establish IP and business strategies.
- The ability to grasp quickly new scientific concepts and technologies and to identify the commercial potential and business models would be required.
Requirements:
- Strong background preferably 3 years of business development experience in materials/chemicals/energy, electrification/built environment sector.
- The candidate should have a Materials engineering or Chemical engineering, Chemistry or Electrical engineering background with MBA.
- In the area of electrification, we are also looking for candidates with an Electrical engineering background with the understanding of battery value chain and/or grid solutions.
- Project management for product development skills will also be required.
- Effective oral, written communication skills and PowerPoint skills would be important.
- Works passionately with cutting-edge technologies and has critical thinking skills to solve issues.
