We're currently looking for a high-caliber professional to join our team as Vice President, Senior Lead Counsel - Singapore - Hybrid (Internal Job Title: Senior Lead Counsel - C13) based in Singapore. The Senior Counsel is a senior professional position responsible for accomplishing results through the management of a team or department in an effort to manage and direct day-to-day legal activities in coordination with the Singapore Legal team. The Singapore Legal team supports a broad range of Corporate Banking and Commercial Banking business lines from secured and syndicated lending, Treasury and Trade Solutions to Markets and Security Services.
In this role, you're expected to:
- Provide legal advisory services to business managers and defend legal matters, including Commercial Banking and Securities Services related businesses and matters.
- Draft, review, and advise on legal documentation, including facility agreements/letters, security documents, board resolutions, legal opinions, NDAs, RFPs, account documentation, custody, fund management and trust agreements, indemnities and disclaimers, term sheets, publicity material, client communications.
- Supervise external counsel and resolve moderately complex issues.
- Continuously stay informed of regulatory changes, new regulations, internal policy changes, and developments in the law.
- Allocate and coordinate resources and conduct planning and budgeting activities, as needed.
- Analyze documentation against regulatory requirements and internal policies to advise business accordingly.
- Resolve problems, escalating to senior staff as needed.
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct, and business practices, and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
As a successful candidate, you'd ideally have the following skills and exposure:
- 7-12 years of relevant experience.
- Valid Bar license to practice law in Singapore.
- Legal experience in cross-border banking/financial industry experience (preferably including experience from big law firms) with a particular focus on transactional banking.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of area of responsibility.
- Comprehensive knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and practices.
- Consistently demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication.
- Proven analytical and organizational skills.
This role includes working with regional product counsels, for each of the relevant businesses, and constant engagement with the business, product partners, Compliance, and other control functions within the bank.
