Job description

Job Title: Senior / Healthcare Assistant

The incumbent will assist the Registered Nurses/Enrolled Nurses to provide basic care for patients in inpatient areas.

Job Responsibilities: General Hygiene and Patient Care Activities

  1. Attend to patients’ call bells
  2. Assisting patients with elimination needs, includes application of urosheath
  3. Apply anti-embolism stockings
  4. Prepare patient for physical examination and/or other procedures
  5. Change bed linen and patient’s clothing
  6. Perform assisted baths
  7. Perform perineal skin care
  8. Perform last offices
  9. Assists with lifting, transferring, positioning and transporting of patients

Nutritional Needs

  1. Document intake and output
  2. Order patients' meals
  3. Serve patients' meals and perform oral feeding
  4. Remove nasogastric tube (NGT)
  5. Assist to feed patient via NGT/PEG
  6. Perform continuous tube feeding
  7. Basic handling of continuous feeding pump

Admission Procedure

  1. Prepare for patient admission
  2. Measure patients' height, weight and vital signs for baseline
  3. Orientate patient on ward environment and visitor policy
  4. Perform initial assessment on patients

Inter-Departmental Transfer

  1. Set up, handle and replace portable oxygen tanks

Clinical Test & Vital Sign

  1. Perform vital signs monitoring and record measurement
  2. Perform 12-lead electrocardiogram
  3. Perform capillary blood glucose monitoring and record measurement
  4. Collect urine, stool, sputum specimens and dispatch
  5. Collect MRSA swabs (nasal, axilla, groin) and dispatch
  6. Perform safe measure of urine from urinary catheter

Drug Administration/Therapy

  1. Administer oxygen therapy

Nursing procedures

  1. Assist with application of physical restrainers
  2. Remove peripheral venous cannula
  3. Re-position bed bound patients 2 hourly
  4. Assist with oral suctioning
  5. Assist with complex wound dressing and bandaging
  6. Assist with IV cannulation and venepuncture
  7. Assist with initiation of emergency procedures
  8. Perform bladder scan
  9. Assist doctor/nurse in minor surgical procedure

Patient fronting tasks

  1. Manage visitor access to patients in the ward
  2. Provide teaching to patients and relatives on infection control practices
  3. Follow up on planned discharges, obtain and follow up on appointments for all discharged patients
  4. Manage calls and coordinate between wards and various dept/NOK

Bed Management

  1. Perform headcount audit of patients in the ward
  2. Request beds for transfer out of patients
  3. Update patient movements out of the ward, example transfers and discharges

Medical Records

  1. Request for medical records and X-rays electronically, if required
  2. File case notes and compile case notes in the ward for transport to HIMS/MRO

Inventory management

  1. Perform inventory count and asset tracking
  2. Top-up supplies
  3. Perform fire safety checks on a monthly basis

Service

  1. Engage patient and family in ward orientation and visitor policy

Process review

  1. Participate in QI projects

Clerical support tasks

  1. Handle incoming and outgoing mails, and coordinate with porters to dispatch and receive items or supplies
  2. Conduct discharge of simple cases
  3. Collection of patients' property
  4. Perform daily ward rounds to update:
    1. Patient's name updated in headboard
    2. Attending Doctor/Discipline updated in system
    3. Choice of class and acuity (e.g. HD/ICU/GW)

Portering

  1. Transport patients for urgent procedures with nurse
  2. Porter urgent cases (patients) on wheelchair
  3. Collect and dispatch of items in urgent situation

Housekeeping

  1. Maintain a safe work environment and patient area
  2. Maintain cleanliness & tidiness of work and patient environment
  3. Perform proper waste disposal including handling of spillage

Qualification Requirement

• Minimum NITEC / Higher NITEC and equivalent

Remarks:

  1. Contract is renewable and convertible subject to work performance.
  2. Eligible for AWS, Bonus and Increment.
  3. 3 months’ probation period.
  4. Open for candidates who are interested in 3 / 2 rotating shifts.
  5. 5 days’ workweek (including weekends and PH)
  6. 3 rotating shifts – staggered hours
    1. Morning: 8am end between 4pm to 6pm
    2. Afternoon: start between 11am to 1pm and end between 7pm to 9pm
    3. Night: 8pm to 8am / 9pm to 9am
