Senior Failure Analysis Engineer, Material Science (Graduate Program)

About our group:

RMO Material Science Laboratory’s primary mission is to provide analytical test solutions to enable media and product qualification on product yield, quality, and reliability. The team also serves a critical role on HDM tribology, contamination, and defect reduction, working closely with and enabling other functions in the disciplines of Mechanical, Electrical, Recording Technology, R&D, Customer Integration, and Manufacturing. This role will report to an Engineering Manager.

About the role - you will:

• Perform material science lab tests and hands-on operation of laboratory analytical instruments e.g., Raman, OSA, SEM-EDX, AFM, XPS, and TOF-SIMS.
• The role focuses on analysis to understand the issues encountered in HAMR product development & manufacturing.
• Work in a team that develops metrology and deploys technical solutions to meet the product's quality metrics and reliability requirements of hard disc drives.
• Work closely with various functional groups to provide high-level analytical support to the product and process engineering team.

About you:

• Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to adapt to a changing environment.
• Ability to communicate engineering and technical concepts to internal and external partners.
• A team player with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional and international partners.

Your experience includes:

• Bachelor/Master/PhD in Material Science, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or any relevant fields.
• Specialization in surface techniques & analysis, polymer/coatings/material characterization.
• Lab skills, including operation of analytical spectroscopic and data analytics techniques.
• Knowledge in data analysis software will be an advantage.
• Experience with software skills such as MySQL and Python.

Our Woodlands site is one of the largest electronics manufacturing sites in Singapore, housing our recording media operations.
