What the role is
The Waste Management Division (WMD) is responsible for the regulation of the waste collection industry, the Public Waste Collection scheme, general waste disposal facilities, the Extended Producer Responsibility and Mandatory Waste Reporting schemes. Through these programmes, WMD aims to achieve an efficient and sustainable waste-to-resource management system in Singapore. It also enforces against illegal dumping activities.
The Producer Responsibility Department (PRD) oversees the development, administration and regulation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Schemes for waste streams such as E-waste and packaging waste, as well as the Mandatory Packaging Reporting (MPR) framework. It is responsible for the licensing of the Producer Responsibility Scheme (PRS) Operator and the regulation of recycling facilities under the EPR schemes. It is also responsible for the audit and verification of data submitted under the EPR and MPR schemes to ensure stakeholder confidence and integrity of the system.
What you will be working on
You will be part of a dynamic team that is involved in the development and implementation of e-waste management strategies and initiatives, including those under the Zero Waste Masterplan. You will be required to take on a regulatory role to ensure industry and stakeholders’ compliance with the Resource Sustainability Act on e-waste management. In addition, you will have the opportunity to work on cross departmental initiatives and projects related to e-waste; and to play a vital role in achieving Singapore’s vision of becoming a Zero Waste Nation.
