We are looking for the right person to supervise reporters covering Singapore issues. He/She will have a deep knowledge of Singapore issues and good contacts of experts in the relevant industries. The incumbent is able to direct reporters to bring out the most salient news points in a story. He/She is able to vet stories to ensure accuracy, objectivity and timeliness. Must be able to work under pressure.
Responsibilities :
Review and decide what news events to cover
Assigning appropriate stories to relevant reporters. Brief and debrief reporters before and after assignments to ensure salient news points and visuals are captured.
Vet stories to ensure they are accurate and make the best use of the material, including video footage gathered
Look out for possible follow-up stories that can be developed from diaried events
Be on the look out for original, newsworthy content that reporters can pursue
Participate in forward planning for important assignments/projects
Develop and enhance professional competence by providing constructive feedback and guidance to reporters
Adhere to the policies and rules set by regulators as well as editorial guidelines
Keep updated on news and current affairs and other assigned segments by monitoring the market, competitors' content and viewers' feedback
Liaise with other news gathering departments in the Mediacorp network to maximise the use of company resources
Guide team to analyse information/data for greater depth in stories
Qualifications
Requirements:
A dynamic individual with a good University Degree
Excellent command of the English Language, both written and oral, and a good grasp of political issues
At least 6 years of experience working in a newsroom, of which 2 years' were in a supervisory role
Be prepared to work irregular hours, weekends and public holidays.
