Position Description
The Senior Counsellor provides counselling services, consultations, assessments and interventions to individuals, couples and families experiencing socio-emotional and mental health challenges of moderate to high complexity and risk.
The incumbent will provide clinical supervision of less experienced counsellors, develop the training curriculum, conduct training for other professionals and the general public, and lead community outreach initiatives.
Responsibilities
Counselling and Case Management
- Conduct a thorough assessment of the client's needs and develop personalised treatment plans.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of counselling interventions and adjust strategies as needed.
- Conduct individual, couple, and family counselling and risk assessments and deliver intervention plans over a variety of modes and approaches such as counselling, group work, video, phone, and email.
- Conduct end-to-end case management for urgent and complex cases, including preparing assessment reports, delivering case presentations, and collaborating with relevant organisations in the social services ecosystem.
- Provide oversight of high-risk cases and consultation to less experienced counsellors handling them.
- Document and maintain proper clinical records according to policies and procedures.
Training Programme Development and Delivery
- Identify the training needs of stakeholders and work with partners to deliver programmes based on world-class research and internationally certified training programmes.
- Facilitate workshops and conduct training and educational talks to professionals and the public.
Development of New/Enhanced Services
- Expand existing service provision by promoting and publicising the organisation’s counselling and training service among relevant agencies, referrers, service users, and potential service users.
Clinical Supervision
- Conduct clinical supervision to junior or professional counsellors on group counselling sessions to empower participants to express thoughts and feelings openly to achieve a specific socio-emotional goal.
- Use professional tools and working templates to guide less experienced staff in case assessment and case planning.
- Mentor interns in their practicum when needed.
- Utilise new and/or adapt evidence-informed assessment and intervention tools in local contexts based on practices and trends.
Planning and Budgeting
- Support the Head of Department/Programme Lead in the development and implementation of the counselling and training services plan to meet organisational KPIs.
- Assist the Head of Department/Programme Lead in monitoring and managing income from counselling and training clients to meet revenue targets.
- Ensure funded projects comply with the funding terms and conditions.
- Ensure budgets are adhered to and financial systems maintained.
Operational Management (Processes, Policies and Protocols)
- Develop and review appropriate protocols, policies and procedures, including outreach, care process, referral, cancellation, assessment, escalation, financial and administrative procedures.
- Provide timely reports on statutory, grants/funders for internal purposes and requirements.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records according to ethical and professional standards and data protection requirements.
Continuing Education and Professional Development
- Stay up-to-date on emerging social issues, technologies used for counselling, and innovative counselling frameworks to propose areas for improvement.
- Engage in ongoing professional development activities, such as attending workshops, conferences, or training sessions, to stay updated on the latest counselling techniques and theories.
Educational Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Counselling or Counselling Psychology.
- SAC registered counsellor and preferably SAC registered Clinical Supervisor.
- Certification in EMDR (or other trauma-related interventions) is a plus.
- Training in different modalities.
Experiences
- More than 5 years of clinical experience in counselling, especially in couple and family work.
- Experience in facilitating psycho-ed and therapy groups.
- Experience in counselling with all age groups (children & youth, adults, and elderly).
- Experience working with different nationalities and cultures.
- Proven track record of helping clients to achieve their psychological well-being goals.
- Passionate about advocating the importance of mental health.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
- Strong interpersonal skills, empathy and an ability to establish a trusting therapeuticrelationship with clients
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Track record of collaboration and teamwork.
