Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Automotive Engineer (Heavy Trucks) to oversee the maintenance, repair, and optimization of our fleet of heavy trucks. This role requires a strong technical background in heavy vehicle mechanics, as well as leadership skills to support and guide our maintenance team. You will work closely with the Head of Logistics Department, Garage Manager, and Procurement Department to ensure the fleet's reliability, safety, and efficiency.

Job Description:

  1. Provide expert mechanical engineering guidance to the Head of Logistics Department regarding fleet performance and maintenance strategies.
  2. Collaborate with the Procurement Department to assess and recommend trucks, parts, tools, and equipment for optimal operational efficiency.
  3. Support the Garage Manager in overseeing routine and preventive maintenance of the company’s fleet, including:
    • Prime movers, vacuum tankers, hook-lift trucks, crane lorries, cargo lorries, and trailers
    • Ancillary equipment such as pumps, water pressure jets, air compressors, and other attachments
  4. Implement maintenance schedules to reduce downtime and extend vehicle lifespan.
  5. Conduct in-depth analysis of maintenance costs to optimize budget allocation.
  6. Utilize diagnostic software and testing equipment to identify mechanical and electronic issues.
  7. Monitor fleet performance using telematics and fleet management software to preempt potential failures and disruptions.
  8. Enforce safety procedures and regulatory compliance across all fleet operations.
  9. Conduct safety inspections to ensure trucks and equipment meet operational and industry standards.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field).
  2. Additional training or certifications in heavy truck mechanics or fleet management are an advantage.
  3. Strong knowledge of heavy truck mechanics, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting techniques.
  4. Proficient in using diagnostic software and fleet telematics for vehicle performance monitoring.
  5. Several years of hands-on experience in heavy truck maintenance, repair, and diagnostics.
  6. Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical and electronic issues.
  7. Strong leadership and management skills to guide teams and collaborate across departments.
  8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
