Senior Assistant Manager / Manager, Labs and Safety

Asian School of the Environment (ASE) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is seeking a dynamic and experience Senior Assistant Manager/ Manager of Labs and Safety. This position reports directly to the School Chair. The role will be instrumental to oversee all the administration and technical aspects of the ASE laboratories (research and teaching). This including but not limited to safety compliance, laboratory budgeting, and space planning, ensuring optimal space utilization in accordance with the mandatory regulatory requirements as well as NTU policy and guidelines. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible to supervise teams on various laboratory related matters, including procurement, installation and training for instruments as well as general lab maintenance.

As a Senior Assistant Manager/ Manager of Labs and Safety, your primary goal is to ensure that the laboratories operate safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities include:

• Facilitate regular meetings with PIs, RFs, and RAs, and establish committees to promote collaboration.
• Oversee the shared budget for labs and manage both internal and external invoicing in partnership with the finance team.
• Collaborate with the Safety Officer to ensure compliance with safety regulations, uphold research integrity, and maintain proper documentation. This includes managing necessary licenses for x-ray and hazardous materials.
• Act as an advisor to various stakeholders on effective management of laboratory and storage space.
• Supervise and coordinate construction and renovation projects with the Office of Design and Facilities Management (ODFM).
• Collaborate closely with internal departments to develop effective solutions and enhance processes.
• Train and mentor staffs to foster a supportive work environment.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in in a relevant scientific field, such as biology, chemistry, or related fields with post-graduate qualification in education.
• Minimum 5 years of experience working in lab and safety related field, preferably in an educational or academic setting.
• Proven experience in planning and coordinating teaching courses or related educational programs.
• Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage logistics and coordinate diverse stakeholders effectively.
• Knowledge of safety regulations, research compliance and risk assessment procedures.
• Experience in budget management, including planning, forecasting, and expenditure control.
• Supervisory experience is preferred.
