Design and engineer strains for specialty chemical production
Design and engineer enzymes for improved activity, stability or specificity (e.g. under conditions of high temperature, extreme pH, or organic solvents)
Develop innovative tools in metabolic engineering, pathway engineering, and strain and enzyme engineering
Design and optimize biosynthetic pathways and microbial strains for the production of value-added chemicals
Oversee the design and execution of experiments, ensuring clear communication of results to teams
Mentor students on projects and collaborate cross-functionally with colleagues, project teams, and stakeholders
Stay abreast of the latest scientific literature, methodologies, and industry trends to bring forward new ideas and improvements to R&D practices
Maintain detailed documentation and stay updated on new developments through ongoing professional learning
Ensure a safe and compliant work environment by following safety protocols and regulations
Support the creation of an education and training framework to establish Singapore as a synthetic biology hub with a skilled workforce
What we are looking for
Qualification in industrial biotechnology, chemical engineering, bioengineering, biochemistry, or relevant field
Strong research background in metabolic engineering and synthetic biology
Proficiency in genomic editing, bioprocess engineering and fermentation
Good critical-thinking and problem-solving skills with attention to details
Excellent written and oral presentation skills to deliver project proposals (scientific & non-scientific), SOPs, reports, and publications
Ability to work independently and collaborate with others
