Scientist, Product Development

Please note: This is not a Remote role and will require the incumbent to be based in Singapore and work a hybrid setup. This is an Individual Contributor role.

What You’ll Do for Us

• Development of lab scale prototypes, producing pilot plans for both beverage-based parts and final products. Prepare beverages and conduct analytical tests on taste and/or odor according to sensory guidelines, including qualifying taste panelists. Assist in setting ingredient and product specifications.

• Design, develop, conduct and/or review experiments at the laboratory to deliver on ideation, innovation, and business continuity initiatives by evaluating ingredients, materials, products, and processes.

• Conduct scale-up pilot trials, acquiring proficiency in the safe and efficient operation of equipment, while ensuring all processes meet safety and performance standards if needed.

• Participate in commercialization scale tests at the manufacturing line with Technical QA and Commercialization team if needed.

• Provide expertise and recommendations of best practices for production of beverage-based parts or finished products during production trials with the plants or bottling partners, which includes consulting line managers as appropriate on milestones and general guidelines and proactively providing advice inside & outside R&D community.

• Manage work requests from multiple scientists and schedules for maximum efficiency and priority. Communicate openly with scientists regarding timing and progress of requested work.

• Perform chemical analyses using instrumental methods to determine the composition of samples and prepare samples and sampling plans for ingredients, intermediate or finished products, or other materials in order to perform analyses.

• Write detailed & accurate reports for analyses, experiments, or projects. Gather and organize information under tight timelines to support senior management's decision-making.

• Participate in team projects, cross-functional committees, or company-wide initiatives to share information, represent the department/division perspective or assist with product development, process modification, package development, and marketing.

• Work on product development projects assigned by line manager from idea generation to formula finalization through close discussion and alignment with Technical and Marketing team and all other stakeholders.

• Support lab administration, including managing material inventories, overseeing equipment maintenance, coordinating with suppliers, and handling order management to ensure seamless operations.

• Maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation (e.g., troubleshooting, conducting preventative maintenance, calibrating, and repairing). Maintain cleanliness of labs and storage areas.

• Contribute to innovation efforts by gathering and analyzing local market insights that inform the innovation strategy and drive business growth.

• Leverage prior education, suppliers, and literature to innovate within the scope of briefs provided by other technical experts or supervisors.

• Apply food science knowledge of ingredients, packaging, processing to assure safe and high-quality products.

• Collaborate with the broader Development and Innovation network, with multiple function subject matter experts and leaders to identify and validate fit-for-purpose solutions based on project needs and scope.

• Ensure technical risks are identified, controlled, aligned, and effectively communicated.

• Lead project meetings within the category, cross-functionally with marketing, customer management, or technical groups. Manage, coach, and train students, technicians, or junior developers on specific projects/tasks.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or related field is required. Master’s degree is preferred.

• Possess 2-3 years of successful experience and knowledge of product development in FMCG Industry, preferably in food and beverage.

• Preferred product development experience in beverage categories including food ingredients, flavors, concentrates, and beverage bases.

• Basic knowledge of the organic chemistry of essential oils and other flavor compounds that is relevant to Company products along with the basic knowledge and ability to apply flavor manufacturing and the processes used such as distillation, extraction, and blending are needed.

• Must possess knowledge of key ingredients used in the production of flavors, concentrates, and beverage bases.

• Must have moderate knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote) and online solutions (Teams, SharePoint, Power Apps).

• Ability to apply technical knowledge and establish credibility through written reports and verbal presentations with highly technical audiences in order to build technical relationships that will benefit customers or the Company is needed.

• Must possess the ability to recognize and protect proprietary information as it relates to formulas and ingredients.

• Knowledge of project management principles and the ability to apply the principles, tools, and techniques to develop/plan, manage or execute projects or work plans to ensure successful completion is ideal.

• Ability to communicate effectively to cross-functional teams on project's progress, risks, and mitigation plans through presentations, meetings, and constructive discussions with the capacity of influencing stakeholders is needed.
