Job Summary:
The successful candidate will perform both lab and clinical experimental work for funded projects that involves microbial culturing, metagenomics, and a remote clinical trial with extensive phenotyping. He/She will also organise, analyse and synthesize across various data types (e.g. clinical, molecular, metagenomic) arising from the project.
In executing the project, the Scientist will help lead a multi-stakeholder collaboration across multiple A*STAR RIs and an industry company, design and perform experiments in close collaboration with the supervisor and industry partner, analyse and organise experimental results for reporting to the supervisor and broader working group.
In addition, he/she will be responsible for liaising with vendors, research participants and collaborators, purchasing consumables, organising and maintaining equipment and study documentation.
He/she will uphold high safety and integrity standards, comply with all HBRA (Human Biomedical Research Act) and HSEP (Health, Safety and Environmental Protection) rules and regulations, as well as SIFBI internal rules.
Key Responsibilities:
We are seeking a researcher to contribute and help lead a collaborative project on the effects of ethnic diets and natural products on microbiome and human health. The scientist will:
- Lead lab and clinical experimental work for a funded project that involves microbial culturing, metagenomics and a human clinical trial
- Organise, analyse and synthesize across various data types (e.g. clinical, molecular, metagenomic) arising from all experimental work
- Design and perform experiments and data analysis in close collaboration with the supervisor and an industry collaborator
- Analyse and organise experimental results for reporting to the supervisor and broader working group across A*STAR
- Be responsible for liaising with vendors, research participants and collaborators
- Purchase consumables, organise and maintain equipment and study documentation
Job Requirements:
- PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Microbiology, Food Science and Nutrition or similar fields.
- Strong track record in planning and executing clinical trials.
- Expertise in microbial culture, isolation and fermentation models.
- Familiarity in R and/or Python and data cleaning with prior metagenomics or omics experience.
- Detail oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills for data interpretation and troubleshooting
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts clearly
- Possess strong organizational and project management skills, demonstrate initiative and able to work independently.
