Job description

We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled bioinformatics specialist who is keen on studying how microbial communities contribute to human health and disease. This position offers a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative environment with access to next-generation sequencing technologies and diverse microbiome samples (skin, oral, and gut). The candidate will contribute to ongoing projects, including studies on the effects of Asian diets on gut health and metabolism, and investigations into composition and function of oral microbiomes in Singaporean communities.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Analyze and interpret microbiome sequencing datasets (metagenomics, metatranscriptomics).
  2. Develop and optimize workflows and pipelines for large-scale microbiome data processing.
  3. Apply statistical and machine learning techniques to identify microbiome patterns and biomarkers.
  4. Integrate microbiome datasets with clinical and environmental data.
  5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to derive insights.
  6. Document research findings, present at meetings, and contribute to scientific publications.
  7. Stay updated on emerging bioinformatics methodologies and tools.

Requirements:

  1. A Bachelor or Master degree in Computational Biology, Data Science, or a related field.
  2. Strong analytical and programming skills (Python, R, UNIX environment etc).
  3. Experience processing and analysing next generation sequencing (NGS) datasets.
  4. Familiarity with statistical approaches in biological data analysis.
  5. Interest in exploring biological questions relating to the human microbiome.
  6. Prior work in microbial genomics, microbiome datasets, or genomics/bioinformatics labs preferred.
  7. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  8. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  9. Ability to work independently and within a team.
