The Signature Research Programme in Neuroscience and Behavioural Disorders (NBD), one of five Signature Research Programmes at Duke-NUS Medical School, is focused on understanding the structure and function of the nervous system, and the neural mechanisms underlying human neurological, psychiatric and ophthalmological disorders.
The Translational Neuroscience Group led by Professor Vincenzo De Paola (https://www.duke-nus.edu.sg/nbd/the-team/faculty-members/details/Detail/de-paola-vincenzo) at Duke-NUS Medical School is looking for Research Fellows/Senior Research Fellows.
The De Paola Lab at Duke-NUS aims to understand the regulation of neural network connectivity and function in the neocortex, a brain region affected in numerous developmental and degenerative diseases as well as acute injuries, which are incurable to date. To study complex genetic neuropsychiatric conditions such as Down syndrome, autism and Alzheimer's disease, we are building more advanced human experimental in vivo cellular models. We focus on the role of the synaptic life cycle (i.e. synapse formation and elimination), and on the mechanisms of axon degeneration and regeneration. We combine human iPSC models, structural and functional imaging of in vivo self-assembled human cortical circuitry (as in Real et al Science 2018, complemented with human derived microglia), with state-of-the-art molecular and computational biology skills.
We are looking for highly motivated, persistent and committed researchers with a strong interest in the wiring and dysfunction of human cortical circuits, and in how we can increase and harness their regenerative potential to transform the treatment of neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric brain disorders. We are located in a modern building with state-of-the-art core facilities adjacent to the Singapore General Hospital, and have strong basic, translational and clinical research partnerships throughout Singapore, including the National Neuroscience Institute.
Duke-NUS offers a highly attractive remuneration package, including competitive salary and benefits comparable to the world top institutions, as well as exciting training and career advancement opportunities.
