Job description

Research Engineer position in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at National University of Singapore (NUS).

With a strong focus on industrial projects, we are developing our exciting technologies beyond the lab scale. We are seeking a talented and experienced individual with expertise in material chemistry and chemical engineering to join us.

As a Research Engineer, you will contribute to industry projects focusing on scaling up our electro-metallurgical battery recycling technology from lab to pilot scale. Your major focus will be developing a process to synthesize precursor materials (pCAM) with extracted metals from spent battery materials.

  • Lead pCAM synthesis processes at the R&D and pilot scale by working in collaboration with the engineering team.
  • Establish process design and synthesis rules to obtain precursors with optimal composition, interfacial properties, crystal structure, particle size, morphology, and electrochemical characteristics.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor or Master in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Chemistry, or any relevant field.
  2. Minimum of 2 years experience in MHP, pCAM synthesis (precipitation, crystallization).
  3. Prior experience in process development and piloting new technologies is highly preferred.
  4. Experience with material characterization techniques like SEM/EDS, ICP, XRD, FTIR.
  5. Strong analytical skills and experience in data analysis and interpretation.
  6. Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced academic environment.
