The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant on a 10-month contract at the Natural Sciences and Science Education Department.

Project Title: A Low Power Optoelectronic Sensor for AI Accelerated Detection and Tracking of Occluded Objects [RI 6/23 THN]

Project Introduction: We are looking for a Research Assistant for the development and investigation of hardware based artificial neural networks that physically and dynamically grow or "self-evolve" in response to external stimuli used for learning. These artificial neural networks pose a cheaper and more energy and compute efficient alternative to current neural network architectures.

Requirements:

• A Bachelor's degree or higher in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, or a closely related field.
• A self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
• Strong organizational skills with the capacity to manage time effectively, demonstrating patience and diligence in conducting experiments and research activities.
• An eagerness to learn and adapt to evolving challenges in a fast-paced research setting is essential.
• Proficient in English, both written and verbal, to facilitate clear communication and collaboration within a professional environment.

Responsibilities:

• Execute fundamental chemistry tasks, including the preparation of electrolytes and other chemical solutions necessary for experiments.
• Fabricate optoelectronic devices with precision, following established protocols to ensure high-quality outcomes.
• Conduct electrical characterization of artificial neurons, utilizing Python programming to analyze and interpret experimental data accurately.
• Apply a range of electrochemical techniques for device fabrication and characterization, including but not limited to electrodeposition of oxide semiconductors and cyclic voltammetry for determining diffusion coefficients of electrolyte materials.
• Synthesize a variety of chemicals, including transition metal complexes, to support ongoing research projects and experiments.
• Oversee the inventory management of laboratory consumables, ensuring that all necessary materials are available for efficient research operations and that stock levels are maintained.
• Analyze experimental results, prepare comprehensive reports, and actively contribute to scientific publications to disseminate research findings.
• Any other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator
