Job description

The School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CCEB) invites applications for the position of Research Assistant, Nano-Bio Interface. The Nano-Bio Interface Lab, led by Asst. Prof. ZHAO Wenting, is pioneering in elucidating the nanoscale regulation mechanism of how membrane geometry impacts the organization and modulation of cellular protein machineries in disease progression. The lab has established state-of-the-art nanofabrication and advanced imaging technologies. The team seeks to recruit a research assistant devoted to studies of nanoscale assembly of diverse proteins on cellular membranes using nanofabricated chips and high-resolution imaging. The project aims to elucidate mechanisms of biophysical guidance of protein assembly in disease progression.

The Research Assistant will take on a significant role in leading sub-projects and coordinating collaborative work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist research projects under the direction of the Principal Investigator or senior research staff, and present significant progress towards the deliverables.
  • Lead sub-projects and coordinate collaboration works.
  • Participate in writing scientific publications and grants. Review and stay current with the literature.
  • Collaborate with other team members and supervise junior members.
  • Assist in the general operation of the laboratory, including ordering supplies and maintenance.
  • Train new laboratory personnel, students, and short-term visiting scientists.
  • Comply with all laboratory safety standards and guidelines.

Job Requirements:
  • Minimum Bachelor Degree in biological science, biomedical engineering, or related disciplines. Research backgrounds in biomaterial fabrication, surface modification, mechanical modulation, cell extraction and manipulation, cell culture, labeling and imaging, peptide design, and related biochemical assays are highly preferred.
  • Working experience in WB, ELISA, liposome assay, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, and python or MATLAB-based image analysis are highly desired.
  • Highly motivated and dedicated to the development of the project.
  • Excellent laboratory, planning, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to integrate well into a team of researchers with different backgrounds, and the ability to learn new techniques.
