Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Refrigeration Technician to manage and maintain refrigeration systems in our supermarket. The role focuses on ensuring optimal performance, minimizing downtime, and extending the life of refrigeration units to preserve perishable goods effectively. You will be responsible for installing, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing refrigeration equipment to meet safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation & Maintenance: Install, maintain, and repair commercial refrigeration systems, including refrigerators, freezers, and display cases.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose issues in refrigeration equipment and perform corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Preventive Maintenance: Implement preventive maintenance programs to reduce the risk of breakdowns and extend the life of refrigeration units.
- Temperature Monitoring: Ensure that refrigeration systems maintain appropriate temperatures for the storage of perishable goods.
- Compliance: Ensure all refrigeration systems meet safety standards, and environmental requirements
- Energy Efficiency: Optimize refrigeration systems for energy efficiency and sustainability.
- Emergency Response: Respond promptly to refrigeration-related emergencies, providing technical support to minimize disruption to supermarket operations.
- Parts & Inventory Management: Coordinate the purchase of parts and maintain an inventory of essential refrigeration components.
- Vendor Coordination: Work with external vendors and contractors for large-scale repairs or upgrades of refrigeration systems.
- Training: Train store staff on proper handling and basic troubleshooting of refrigeration units.
- Documentation: Maintain records of maintenance work, equipment performance, and compliance checks.
- Ad-hoc duties assigned.
Requirements:
- Technical diploma or certification in Refrigeration, HVAC, Mechanical, or related fields (e.g., Higher Nitec, Nitec, or NTC).
- At least 3 years of experience working with commercial refrigeration systems.
- Experience in the supermarket, retail, foodservice and/or commercial refrigeration industry is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of refrigeration systems and their components (compressors, evaporators, condensers, etc.).
- Proficient in troubleshooting and diagnostic techniques.
- Familiarity with refrigerants and environmental regulations.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment.
- Must be able to work in cold environments for extended periods.
- Comfortable with working on ladders or in confined spaces.
Work Environment:
- Primarily in-store, with occasional travel to multiple locations.
- May be required to work outside of regular business hours for emergencies or scheduled maintenance.
