The Early Mental Potential & Wellbeing Research (EMPOWER) Centre at Nanyang Technological University invites applications for up to three (3) Programme Leaders who will be appointed to the rank of Fellow/Senior Fellow/Principal Fellow as commensurate with experience and may additionally hold the title of Research Assistant Professor through competitive award.

The Early Mental Potential & Wellbeing Research Centre’s mission is to maximise every child’s mental and emotional capital by uplifting neurodevelopmental trajectories during early sensitive periods through interdisciplinary discovery science and translational technologies. The Centre has 3 major activities and thrusts:

• Core Discovery Research, Empowering Science: Basic neuroscience research and AI computational models to understand individual neurocognitive potential, developmental trajectories, risk and resilience factors.
• Clinic & Pedagogy, Empowering Practitioners: Precision assessment and intervention to optimise parent-child social and mental health within clinical, education and community settings.
• Real-World Technologies, Empowering Families: Scalable real-world technologies for parent-led interventions to support children’s mental and cognitive wellbeing at home.

We are looking for scientists with exceptional promise to join the Centre as Programme Leaders. Eligible applicants will additionally be nominated to apply for the University Research Assistant Professorship scheme and may hold this rank for the duration of their appointment with the Centre.

The EMPOWER Centre's current portfolio of research is worth in excess of SGD$20 mil (USD$15 mil). Programme Leaders will be expected to provide scientific leadership for ongoing basic research, translational, and commercial programmes in child health under the Centre's remit. Indicatively, we are looking to appoint one Programme Leader to oversee and expand each of the Centre's core thrusts. Programme Leaders will be supported to develop their own research programme and to obtain independent research funding, within the EMPOWER remit.

Programme Leaders will work closely with EMPOWER’s Director, Professor Victoria Leong, as well as with local and international collaborators, as part of a diverse and talented international research team. Programme Leaders will also assist with supervision and teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Key Responsibilities:

• Providing scientific leadership for ongoing basic research, translational, and commercial programmes in child health under the Centre's remit;
• Overseeing and expanding each of the Centre's core thrusts;
• Developing their own research programme and obtaining independent research funding, within the EMPOWER remit;
• Assisting with supervision and teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Job Requirements:

• PhD degree in Neuroscience, Psychology, Computational, Technological, Clinical, Educational or other fields related to EMPOWER's remit;
• Strong track record of research publication, commensurate to career stage;
• Evidence of research leadership or strong potential to become an independent research leader;
• Experience with teaching and supervision;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
• Efficient, organized, and a good team player;
• Self-motivated and able to motivate others.
