Job description

SIT is the first university in Singapore that offers a suite of undergraduate and postgraduate allied health degree programmes. They form an integral part to ensuring continuity in supply of allied health professionals in response to the growing demands of healthcare professionals in Singapore. These programmes include Diagnostic Radiography, Dietetics and Nutrition, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Radiation Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy. In addition, SIT offers a pre-registration and a post-registration nursing programmes. “Learning by doing” is the foundation of our applied learning pedagogy. Right from the first year of study, students gain up-to-date clinical knowledge and skills through opportunities such as service learning and practical sessions in simulated settings.

The Health and Social Sciences Cluster consists of full-time faculty with deep prior clinical experience, joint appointment faculty who are senior clinicians, and adjunct and associate faculty, many of whom are leaders in their respective fields. The cluster strongly believes in interprofessional education and interprofessional practice. Faculty collaborate closely across healthcare disciplines and often work with SIT colleagues from other academic clusters to drive impactful outcomes in the community.

POSITION SUMMARY

SIT’s strategic translational research programme on Community Health Transformation is aligned with Singapore Ministry of Health (MOH)’s ‘Three Beyonds’: ‘beyond healthcare to health’; ‘beyond hospital to community’; ‘beyond quality to value’. This focus area encompasses research efforts ranging from healthcare engineering and innovation to digital health and community health and social care research, covering areas such as neurorehabilitation, frailty, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, psychosocial rehabilitation etc.

Two strategic areas of clinical research at Health and Social Sciences (HSS) cluster are:

  1. One Rehab: the National One-Rehabilitation framework (“One-Rehab”) is a national initiative developed by the Ministry of Health to ensure patients have access to the right rehabilitation care at the right time. Six conditions are currently covered under One-Rehab: stroke, musculoskeletal conditions, deconditioning, hip fracture, spinal cord injury and amputation. SIT HSS is the national training provider for OneRehab and there is potential to implement health services research on the six conditions within this framework.
  2. Health management of older adults: with Healthier SG initiatives, it is timely to explore the effects of therapeutic interventions to enhance the health and wellness of frail older adults. Intervening upstream will reduce the incidences of falls, stroke and other medical conditions prevalent among older adults in Singapore. Two sub-themes: 1) nutrition for older adults/ adults with multi-morbidities and 2) frailty management are the priority areas.

As the only autonomous university in Singapore that provides a suite of allied health programmes, there are exciting opportunities to assume leadership roles in building research and education capabilities within SIT. Therefore, SIT is eagerly seeking academics with experience in the strategic focus areas, to establish SIT as the leading university for applied research in rehabilitation. This will transform the community health delivery landscape and lead to better clinical outcomes and professional practice within Singapore and the region.
