Job description

Plasterer's Responsibilities:

A plasterer is responsible for applying plaster (a building material) to walls, ceilings, and other surfaces to create smooth finishes, textures, and coatings. Their responsibilities typically include:

  • Surface Preparation: Cleaning and preparing surfaces by removing dust, dirt, grease, and old materials. Repairing holes, cracks, or imperfections in surfaces before applying plaster.
  • Mixing Plaster: Preparing plaster or other materials (like joint compound or lime) according to manufacturer instructions.
  • Applying Plaster: Applying the plaster mix to surfaces using tools like trowels, spatulas, and hawks. Ensuring even coverage and a smooth, level finish.
  • Finishing: Smoothing and finishing the plaster surface, either by hand or with special finishing tools. Creating texture or decorative patterns when required.
  • Drying and Curing: Ensuring proper drying and curing of plaster after application. Sanding or polishing the surface once dry, if necessary.
  • Health and Safety: Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) like gloves, masks, and goggles to protect against dust and chemicals. Ensuring the working area is safe to prevent accidents.
  • Maintaining Equipment: Cleaning and maintaining plastering tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition.

Supervisor's Responsibilities:

A supervisor in the construction or plastering trade has oversight and leadership duties. They ensure that work is completed on time, within budget, and according to quality standards. Some common responsibilities include:

  • Project Management: Overseeing the progress of the plastering project, ensuring milestones are met. Scheduling work to ensure timely completion.
  • Team Supervision: Managing and supervising a team of plasterers or other tradespeople. Providing direction, training, and support to workers.
  • Quality Control: Ensuring that the quality of plastering work meets the required standards. Inspecting finished work for defects, uneven surfaces, or other issues.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Ensuring that workers adhere to health and safety regulations. Monitoring safe working practices on-site, including the correct use of PPE.
  • Resource Management: Managing resources, including materials, tools, and labor. Ensuring the availability of plastering materials and tools for workers.
  • Client and Stakeholder Communication: Communicating with clients or project managers to provide updates on progress. Addressing any concerns or issues that arise during the project.
  • Problem Solving: Identifying and resolving issues or challenges that occur on-site, such as supply shortages or unexpected work delays.
  • Documentation: Keeping accurate records of project progress, materials used, and hours worked.
